It is said that the village was created after a group of druids planted an oak in the middle of a strange naturally circular rock formation. The water of the bay is kept still by the fang-like rock pillars that connect the two sides of the bay. It's said among the locals that the bay was formed when the giant rock drake Gyorgat rejoined the earth, his lower jaw the only thing remaining of his final resting place.
For the people of Gyorgat's Maw, the cycle of life and death, nature and the seasons is a central part of their culture and beliefs. They say that the day the oak withers is the day the village must leave. So far, it stands strong and vibrant.
