Okay, hear me out.
I was doing a little bit more research on the Sphinx and I realized that there are two different types from two different cultures (Edit: There's three actually). Which is something I already knew but I completely spaced on.
The Sphinx in Greek Mythology is always female -- She is normally depicted as having the body of a lion, the wings of a bird and the face of a woman. In some of the things that I read she had the tail of a serpent as well, but in others she did not so I think that bits up to interpretation (Edit: Actually, I guess the Greek version always has the serpent tail, but the Asian version does not). She would ask travelers riddles and if they struggled or failed to answer her correctly then she would eat them. Totally brutal.
The Sphinx in Egyptian Mythology is actually mostly male but there is one female Sphinx, she's based off of the Pharaoh Hatshepsut, as well in their mythology that I've seen in my research. He usually has the body of a lion and the face of a pharaoh but lack the wings that his Greek adjacent version has. He is depicted as a protector of temples and tombs.
There's a lot more interesting things to dig into with this, so if you're ever bored and looking for way to spend an afternoon, I suggest reading up on the Sphinx from different regional mythology. It was interesting and I learned a ton and still had a ton more I could have been reading.
And it all gave me an idea.
I know this month was suppose to be female, but why not both?
Both is good, right?
I sure hope so, because this is what I came up with.
I wanted to do taurs so that I could get a little more expression into the bodies since I know feral anatomy is not my strong point. I can still work comfortable on the torsos but allow myself some room to really push myself to learn something new with their lion butts.
We've got the Greek Sphinx offering our Egyptian Sphinx some wine as he makes his way on a journey home. You know those Greeks and their wines and such~ Good times.
I hope that I've been somewhat educational and entertaining to you all today.
Cheers, everyone!
