ONE PIECE - Eps. 629-640 | REACTION

Welcome to DRESSROSA baby!

This'll be the last of the 10 ep VODs for quite a while y'all! We'll only post One Piece once this week because of it, but starting next week we'll be splitting VODs in order to make them not only smaller, but to share them more regularly each week.

One Piece will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with still roughly 10 eps, just separated across two videos!

Looking forward to checking out so much more Dressrosa with you all! Loving this arc already!

ONE PIECE - Eps. 629-640 | REACTION

Hi, im late but i also think that its more of a special thing ( i'll explain my hypothesis without spoilers, just with what you know and saw at this point ), one for what marco said about his bodies being special but also ( and you notice that when you rewatch in general ) when we meet Blackbeard at Jaya, when Nami leaves the bar with Luffy and Zoro after the Bellami argument, the "People dream have no end" scene, when Luffy and zoro leave Nami say "he" when talking about Blackbeard but Luffy and Zoro correct her and say "They", now you could see this in two possibility : 1 - They sensed other people or 2 - you could make a theorie because for me this is very unlikely as simple as "they sensed other people around" and i'll let you make your hypothesis based on that because even my theorie is not fully developed and i'll wait for you to move forward in the anime because this type of discussion will be more interesting. Also when Ace find Blackbeard in episode 325 at one point he say to him " [...] having lived through twice as much as others." its so subtle in each of my exemple but i think its the thing with Oda's writting, its subtle little thing and sentences here and there that are here to give us clue that you dont notice right away, and maybe its nothing but its maybe a small part of the answer, hard the tell. Blackbeard is defenitly a mytserious and interesting case. If you want to rewatch the two moments im talking about its episode 147 around 8 min 30 and episode 325 around 5 min 50. Also im currently trying to be caugh up to your reaction, its so cool to watch ! ( sorry for my english )

For sure - I toyed with the theory that it could’ve been the fact that it’s because “they are strong” though, because it’s possible that others wouldn’t dare try to consume another fruit if it means death. These pirates want to survive being the strongest on the seas and honing their abilities, not dying by doing something that defies the law of common sense in this world. The thing I thought might be different about Blackbeard though is that he might’ve been crazy enough to try and hungry enough for that power to make it work. But yeah I think you’re 100% right anyway like Blackbeard is a big old exception, but the next thing I’m thinking is that this might also be something to do with those who have D. in their name. Of course I’m always just speaking on conjectures and I know some of the shit I say is absolutely 100% ridiculously incorrect but I like putting my cope out there anyway 🤣

Hey man, genuinely didn’t mean anything close to this at all honestly. I was asking because I was genuinely curious because so much is up in the air with Tora when he’s first introduced, let alone the fact that I even assumed for a period that he was potentially even pretending to be blind in order to be far less assuming in order to catch the straw hats off guard or something. Tora’s my favourite Admiral so far - he’s got the most interesting personality out of him and Kizaru, and Akainu is a shitty person (great character as a result), and I’m interested to see his justice. I’m genuinely interested to know how IS he an Admiral if he’s blind too though. Was he an Admiral first and then blinded in battle? Was he blinded by someone else or was it something he was born with? (He has scars on his eyes so I’d say battle but no spoilers please 🥹) All of this to say that sometimes it may not come out mega eloquently in the middle of a fight or a reveal or something, but I’m genuinely just curious and I don’t even take their abilities / disabilities that seriously. I mean at the end of the day, all Devil Fruit Eaters lose the ability to swim, Franky is a literal cyborg, Rayleigh and Garp are like strong as all hell despite being in their 70’s and Tora is blind. None of these traits hold the characters down nor are they the lens I mainly see them through, let alone a potentially ableist one as this would require me to view them as “not as good” or “not as worthy” as the able bodied characters which is absolutely not the case. Also re: Observation Haki, yeah this is assumed largely until he’s revealed to be an Admiral as well too. He can obviously sense things as well and is extremely intelligent / perceptive. At face value, I was just genuinely asking out of curiosity but if it made you uncomfortable then my apologies. Just thought I’d clarify that 🫡

Yeah I don’t think anyone is out here ever downgrading Vice Admirals to be honest - it’s just awesome to see them get beaten or roughed up because 1. awesome scenes 2. sometimes incredibly unexpected, especially since we taste this in the new world a lot as opposed to pre-time skip and also 3. it’s big vibes seeing Luffy and co. get so much stronger every arc and seeing how much more distant they become power wise compared to the Vice Admirals yet also seeing the gap between Vice Admirals and Admirals - because even an Admiral is too much for us to take at the moment.

Mhm for sure - it’s an awesome touch

With Bellamy something you might have missed: during the fight with Tank (the captain of Dressrosa defense force, guy with flail) Tank says "i'd rather make easy money than chase a dream" and Bellamy response "my ears hur" or "that makes my ears hurt" because its supposed to burn his ear since it reminds him of who he used to be because that is basically what he said to Luffy back in Mock town. I really love the attention to detail that Oda puts into his characters like this.

Also to talk about power scaling. Remember that Vice-Admirals are in fact pretty strong, but Smoker being weaker than Law and presumably Luffy too as well as showing Bartalameo beating a V-Admiral is not to downgrade V-Admirals, its to show how strong pirates in the New World are and to make you start thinking about how strong Luffy must be after 2 year gap bc we still haven't seen anything big or new from Luffy bc everyone he has faces so far was not strong enough for him to have to go all out

Joseph C Gdaniec

The thing about the whole "World Balance" that people forget is that it is not 3 separate groups each balance each other out. It's the Navy Admirals + the 7 Warlords all working for World Government to balance the power of the 4 Emperors, who by the way are not teamed up against the WG. It means each Emperor is enough of a threat on their own that it would take Admirals + Warlords to handle. Really makes the scale crazy, and makes you think that a sick and dying Whitebeard still fought against 3 Admirals and multiple Warlords as well

Joseph C Gdaniec

So Lok I know you mean it in jest and you are just having fun but maybe cool it with the "he's blind why do they see him as a threat?" or the "how is he an admiral is he's blind" that is kind of heading towards ableism. Not to mention there is Observation Haki in this world which would mean it doesn't matter if he's blind he could "see" anyway

Joseph C Gdaniec

So the whole Smiley thing is something that was better explained in the manga with some extra panels but essentially that is a "real" devil fruit. Smiley was a DF eater of a salamander-salamander (or some other lizard iirc) fruit and since there was a fruit available right there when he died from eating the candy the DF power went into the closest fruit. It's why there was a whole bag of fruits to increase the odds that the DF power went directly into one of those fruits, because I assume there is some weighted randomness to it

Joseph C Gdaniec

They explained back in Enies Lobby that you can't eat 2 devil fruits and that if you do you would just die and both fruits would spawn again somewhere else. It is precisely bc this was explain in Enies Lobby that what Blackbeard did was such a big deal. He is the first person ever in the World Government's public history to have 2 fruits at the same time. We know it isn't "they just have to be strong" because if that was the case then people like Whitebeard would already have had more than 1 fruit. Marco literally said that Blackbeard's body was weird/special so its more likely to do with that.
