I’ve actually been wanting to learn a lot more about Chinese on the side but I never give myself time though, so this was pretty exciting to know haha 😆 That sounds so goofy but it’s the little things!

I definitely misunderstood this then though because I thought perhaps Jinshi had introduced her under a slightly different alias just in case there wound up being issues with her returning to the inner court and stuff but this makes so much more sense! That’s actually awesome then though because it makes Suiren a lot softer than she already is and gives her a much kinder impression using that prefix I think! 😊 Thanks for this info Fumi! I don’t speak Chinese (yet 👀) but I never would’ve known otherwise. Forgot that Gaoshun referred to her as well as Xiaomao previously too!

If I misunderstood your understanding of maomao/xiaomao's new name then please just ignore this part lol xiao is used as a prefix almost similarly to -chan in japanese, meaning small or young. Gaoshun jokingly called Maomao xiaomao in one of the early episodes when she asked him not to call her sama. Gyokuyo also has referred to her daughter Lingli as xaioling a few times. when i was younger, i would call my little brothers as xiao"chinese name" or xiao "brother" and i thought it was so funny that this sub uses the same words but without explaining at all for non chinese speakers or people who simply wouldnt know xD; I could be wrong about its use within this story though!
