When you mentioned fans saying the arc was slow, I think it's from a rewatch perspective. There are definitely some parts near the end of the arc that "feel" slow because of "anime time," but I'd say on a whole the thing is exciting enough to keep you hooked since it's your first watch so I doubt you will have any problems enjoying it. Plus you aren't binging it, so it gives you more time to digest it through the week. Just ignore and continue having a blast.
