At last we have a date! NIGHT/SHADE: You're The Drug is set to release the week of March 7th! 🎉
The game is FINISHED! Right now we're giving ourselves more time to properly comb out any issues.
For some insight on the process, the game takes several hours to even comb through once--and that's with us skipping all the text and clicking through it. Every build comes with issues and we have to play the entire game to find them. Busy work for sure!
We wanted to share a snippet of our most recent devlog for high priority notes to give an idea of the kind of issues that decide to rear their heads when we least expect them:
Global: Fix History menu asset and pause menu asset sizing
A2S12: Can’t test version where [REDACTED] both choices play Dima version.
A3S4: Loaded a save file into this scene (at the question NSFW/SFW ROUTE) and the fire SFX was looped in the background. Played for the entirety of the scene.
Global: Can’t test point system until chapter buttons are removed
A3S2: Can’t test locked option asset until [REDACTED]
A3S2: Music cuts and immediately starts playing track_danger, pg 29
Global: Can’t load save slots from second page (slots 16-30)
Global: Messages on phone mechanic aren’t showing up in act 2
Global: Gallery needs more pages to accommodate over 50 CGs
Global: To reduce confusion, we renamed clank_metal to metal_hit and will update the coding scripts to reflect this change.
Global: Make sure ALL assets (sprites, CGs, and Backgrounds) are up to date. Many have been edited for Kickstarter rewards or continuity issues. This includes “Extras” tab
Global: Many SFX aren’t playing, ones that have been in the build. This especially happens when two SFX play back-to-back, the second won’t play. Scenes include:
A1: Scenes 1, 3, 4, 7, 14, 15
A2: Scenes 3, 7, 13
A4: Scenes 2
Quicksave SFX hasn’t played the entire game as of the recent build
Global: Red flashes on screen need to have at LEAST a 2 second fade out after for SAFETY reasons.
A1S5: CG_06 needs to be updated (there was a naming issue)
A1S7: Club bg shows up during crossfade (if you choose NSFW), pg 35
A1S13: CG_16 shows up during the crossfade flashback to CG_06, pg 21
A2S5: Drive.mp4 should replace menu_bg.mp4. Also, if playing normally instead of loading from New Game, the BG is still tiny.
A2S6: Line missing and outdated line, please update, pg 19
A2S6: Incorrect sprite, Sasha’s sprite changed to sasha_02_smile instead of staying sad as he [REDACTED] pg 53
A2S8: The slow pan prevents the player from clicking. It should be in the background, like the slow zoom in A1S10. Right now it holds up the scene, pg 15
A2S9: BG appears on screen without crossfade, pg 1
A2S9.5: [REDACTED] asset should be layered on top of the sprites
A2S11: SFX is barely audible, please turn the volume up, pg 3
...and the list continues from there.
Shoutout to our programmer for ironing out bugs at hyperspeed. These issues are to be expected, this game has well over 1,000 assets after all.
We're chomping at the bit to release this game to you all! It won't be long now!
