Early Release, North Jetty Tutorial

You have been just on fire with great ideas lately and I'm following up on all of them!

You said I should release a greatest hits album and sheet music book to match.

The reception of North Jetty is going really great so far!! So I am going full steam ahead on choosing the next pieces to perform in studio with sheet music to match.

How cool would it be if I had an album to release that included all the upcoming performance tunes?

What if it's called:

Jenny O'Connor- Studio Chronicles Volume 1

???

All my studio albums were mastered by Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Digital Audio in Austin TX.

He is a legend known for his golden ears.

He has beyond perfect pitch. He can hear any note or even just a noise in between the notes, and tell you exactly what the frequency is in hertz.

Mastering is where they take all the final mixes from the recording studio and assess them as a whole.

He makes adjustments to the over all EQ of each track. That means he's turning down any frequencies that make the track sound muddy, and turning up the ones that will make it sparkle and shine.

After he goes through each track making any over all EQ adjustments, he goes track by track putting them in the sequence we requested. We would usually have agonized about the track sequence for weeks listening to different burned CD versions in the car to see what flows.

Track by track we'd then discuss the amount of silence that would best suit each transition one track to the next. Sometimes he would write or change the fade out to better suit the flow.

Then he listens to all of it on various stereo equipment from high end to very cheap, to make sure the album will sound as good as possible on as many different set ups as possible.

This final step is optional but we were totally into it. He would record the entire digital album onto reel to reel tape to give it old school warmth and character.

And then from the tape he would record it back to digital and then burn the master CD on his super fancy CD burner that would be sent to manufacturing.

I talked to his wife Diane this week. She's a confident sassy Texas women that keeps everything running like clockwork. I wondered if I'd reach her or have to leave a message but she picked the phone right up.

Jerry put a couple of hours of work into digging in to the archives to see what they could find of my projects with the bands.

Well...

They found all of it!

That means these can be remastered any which way and re-released.

People are listening to music much differently now, so he can make tweaks for our current devices and formats.

Might be really cool to hear these reworked!

So as always thanks for your inspiration and support!

xoxo,
Jenny
