Hi all,
I've completed the Patreon voted Nobleman's Manor. This guy took me a while. It started off really well, but quickly became a bit of a slog for me. On that note, I think I want to let you all know where I'm at right now. If you're not interested, you can skip down to the new scene notes below :)
It's been a trend recently, biting off a bit more than I can chew. Of late all of my scenes have been pretty big - this release, The Grand Library and Lost Library, The Living Quarters. And honestly, I haven't felt like I've had a ton of time to breathe. Usually it starts out well enough, I'm motivated, have a good idea or two and I get on it. But by the end, I'm drained and struggling to get my release out on time. Looking at past years, a lot of my scenes weren't as big - The Hilly Road or The Old Bridge come to mind. So I'm starting to realize I can't keep up this pace while providing the quality that I want - it's burning me out. Take this release for instance. It's not just a 30x30 map, it's 4 levels or so (not all fill the entire 30x30 area) of a 30x30 map. That's equivalent (in my eyes anyway) of 4 30x30 maps, plus variations, interactions, journals, videos etc.
With that in mind, I think I'm going to have to slow down a bit. I love the ideas behind some of the bigger projects I take on, but I can't do them every month. Going forward, I'm going to try and make things a bit smaller at least once per month. I still want to do the bigger scenes, it'll just be less frequent.
I should also let you know that I'm taking a big family trip in September/October, so I won't be producing anything for the month - maybe for both. Of course, as always when I do this, I won't be charging for those months.
New Scene: Nobleman's Manor
This is a 4 level Manor (cellar, Ground, 1st, 2nd and roofs). It includes a servants quarters (right side of the map) as well as the noble's house (left side). Like all good manors, it includes a butler's room, parlours, bedrooms and of course a dumbwaiter. In Foundry, this can be called and sent between floors and has its own variations.
There are a few customization options - the dining table, dumbwaiter, and the murdered count in the study. In Foundry, all fires come in two variations (lit and unlit) and the lamps can be toggled via double click.
This scene is relatively simple, so I'll likely combine videos with the next release.
Hope you enjoy!
