The future of everything Clocktower

Greetings, Fishermen and Flowergirls. Over the past several months, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes making some big improvements to the Blood on the Clocktower app – and we’re thrilled to finally start sharing what’s coming. These changes are the result of deep technical work, user feedback, and our ongoing commitment to supporting a global and inclusive community of players. While we won’t be putting firm dates on any of the features just yet, we can tell you that they’re coming soon – and they’re worth getting excited about!

Multi-Language Support Is on the Way

The most significant change under the hood has been a major reworking of the app’s core code to support multiple languages. We’ve already completed successful early testing, and we're now collaborating with our official localisers to begin uploading approved translations into the app.

But that’s not all: we also need translations for the app’s interface itself, and that’s where you, the community, come in. Soon, we’ll be opening up a translation portal where volunteers can contribute as translators or reviewers to help ensure the app is accessible to players everywhere, in their native language.

We’re also working to bring translated versions of the Carousel experimental characters into the app, so that these too can be enjoyed in multiple languages alongside the core game.

Supporting a Safer, More Connected Online Experience

Beyond language support, we're looking ahead to features that will strengthen the social side of the app and make the online experience more enjoyable and safer for everyone. These features will include:

These features are being designed with care, and we’re eager to see the positive impact they’ll have on online gameplay.

Strengthening Our Moderation Team

We’re also excited to announce that Alejo Black has officially joined the TPI staff to lead our app and discord moderation team. Many of you will already know Alejo from their work as a volunteer moderator, as well as being a regular face on streams and YouTube videos. They are a trusted and familiar presence in both the app and our Discord community.

Alejo will be leading our moderation efforts, ensuring that Blood on the Clocktower continues to be a welcoming and safe space for all players. With Alejo’s leadership, we’ll be focusing even more closely on community safety, consistency, and care – building on the strong foundations already in place.

UI/UX Overhaul in Progress

We’ve also begun early design work on a full user interface and experience overhaul. While this is still in the early stages, the goal is to make the app more intuitive, more modern, and more enjoyable to use. In particular, we're keen to start moving towards functionality for mobile devices, which is a mammoth task for something as visually busy as Clocktower. It’s a big step, and we’ll be sharing more as the direction comes into focus.

A Whole New Script Tool

Last but certainly not least, we’re doing a complete overhaul of the Script Tool. The current version has served us well, but it’s built on an 8-year-old foundation that’s become increasingly difficult to maintain.

The new version is already live in our development environment and is undergoing a visual refresh. Like the app itself, it’s being retooled to support multiple languages, so script creators and storytellers around the world can build and share in the language that suits them best.

The new Script Tool doesn’t just look better - it comes packed with long-requested functionality. In addition to supporting multiple languages, the updated tool will also:

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly excited about what’s coming and we hope you are too. These updates reflect our long-term investment in making Blood on the Clocktower more accessible, more social, and more fun – whether you’re sitting around a circle or playing online with friends across the world.

Stay tuned for more updates as we roll these features out. And to everyone who has helped test, translate, and share feedback: thank you. You’re helping us shape the future of BotC.

Have fun and stay spooky!

Yeah, it was a really great basis for turning into the full new script tool! :-)

Ah wow. Really happy that you got (or bought) the script tool from Conor Reynolds. :-) Used it a lot before it was taken down and had a feeling that this might have been the reason why...

Initiate: Woah! Love the sound of the new updated script tool. Been wanting a nice two column lay-out like the official scripts for quite a while, so having that be possible with the script tool is wonderful! Also having night order instructions is a blessing. I can run most characters just fine, but it can definitely decrease the number of little mistakes made with characters where they actions required are a bit finnick/complex. Can't wait to play around with it soon!!
