Newsletter: week of 3/31
Added 2025-04-04 15:05:56 +0000 UTCI'm coming in hot this week- I just spent an hour attempting to connect my laptop to a printer. I swear they have kept that difficult just so we still feel something about technology. The current feeling is hatred. How has your Friday been going? π
In other news, this week felt oddly calm for me. I spent most of my time up in the woods, where we are still getting snow(!!), with a quick 24 hours down in NYC, where it was 70 degrees and humid. I have been jamming on my Light Phone III edit all the while. I can't remember the last time a video took me this long, but I have really been enjoying getting more time to "play" in the edit. This includes employing a snap-zoom, some "swosh" sound effects, and shooting every shot with more intention. It feels really, really good to take time, and I can't help but wonder if using a phone that slows me down has prompted me to slow down in other areas of my life as well.
I should have this video out on Sunday night for Patreon subscribers and Monday morning for everyone else. And I can't wait for you to see this; it feels far more "Becca" and much less "Verge," which is something I have been endlessly working towards. At the Verge, hitting the specs and being a bit more professional, whatever that means, was very important. But with my work, I am trying to be more human and bring folks into my personal life, and this video brings you in, or at least I hope it does. Ok, enough hyping this review and onto everything else I was seeing and thinking about this week.
MagSafe + Light Phone III = <3
What I read:
Scientists Create Sound That Can Curve Through a Crowd and Reach Just One Person
"Researchers use two beams of ultrasound waves β the type used in medical imaging β which vibrate at a frequency way above human hearing as a "carrier for audible sound." That way as they travel, they're silent to human ears and only become audible when they reach their target." π€― I have so many more questions, which is always the sign that this could make a great video.
Study finds that kids with smartphones report higher well-being than those without
I read this on April 1st and absolutely thought it was a joke, but it turns out it's real.
Apple has finally rolled out a new AirPods Max firmware update, version 7E101, with lossless audio and ultra-low latency support
Do we have any AirPod Max users who can hear the difference?
What I watched:
A wedding film? That's kinda inspiring?
There will be a 4:3 Becca video in the future. (To be clear, it will not a 4:3 Becca wedding film.)
Why John Wilson canβt stop filming
This led me to a Robert Frank deep dive, which I highly recommend.
Letting Our Boat Freeze In and Spending the Winter in Ice
I have now collectively spent over 1.5 hours watching content from these folks. Facinating!
And a shit ton of videos about connecting to the HP LaserJet Pro M203dw.
What I listened to:
halfβ’alive - R.I.P. (Audio) feat. The Walters
Music To Refine To: A Remix Companion to Severance - ODESZA & Theodore Shapiro
Fred again.. - Boiler Room: London
Okay, I'm going to get back to my maximal edit about a minimal device now. I hope you have a great weekend, bud!
Appreciate ya,
Becca

2025-04-13 17:17:23 +0000 UTCHad to do some catch up with newsletters and such. Just wanted to quickly react to the Fred again.. remark. If you ever have the chance to see him liveβ¦. He is awesome!! Period. Iβm not the youngest anymore. In other words I could be the dad of most of the youngsters at Fredβs concert, but man I felt like one of them. Except for one βtinyβ detail. It took me a week to recuperateβ¦
