Well, of course this was their take on Jack and The Beanstalk. I kind of like the idea into incorporating fairy tales into this world that was originally based on Greek mythology. This episode is laden with references to Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Honeymooners, and especially the Three Stooges, as well as a surprising number of herpes (harpies) jokes. And you're right, the baby harpies look like Gremlins. My favorite part of this season premiere is the sets; the Giant castle interior is really well done, and the cloud setting looks really cool.
