Ynys Llanddwyn & the story of Santes Dwynwen

I'm going to do a little series on decolonising Cymru's history and place names, starting with Ynys Llanddwyn, Ynys Môn in North Wales.

Next week we'll be looking at Eryri (Snowdonia) and the current battle to rebrand the National Park with the original Welsh name.

Thank you Leigh for another great video.

Thats just a theory, we haven't been able to confirm the etymology yet

Thank you. I was a bit worried about the môn part. I belived it ment cow. And thought it might be derogatory to call it cow Island.

I love that you ask questions 😄 I liked the old Welsh poetic name 'Ynys Dywyll', but Ynys Môn is the preferred name. Anglesey is Island of the Angles, which we most certainly are not

Ok I know I ask alot of questions. But what about Anglesey. Which do locals prefer Anglesey, hook island, Ynys Môn or Môn Mam Cymru. I know the last one is old so may have been forgotten by most young ones.
