I have posted the bonus content pertaining to "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" on Action Button Channel Two. You can find many (many) hours of content of mysterious provenance over in the "Fukubukuro" playlist, and kind of a full triple-A-video-game's-worth of more focused stuff in the "Get Bonus" playlist.
How I decided which videos went in which playlist, I can barely begin to explain to you. Heck, I can barely begin to begin to explain why in the first place I selected which videos I did select from my now bursting-full treasure trove truck trunk of bonus video nonsense (if you at-gunpoint made me choose three letters to engrave into this figurative chunk, right now I'd go with "OMT" -- "One Man's Trash"). Suffice it to say I have a LOT of footage of a LOT of video games, and there's me talking on top of pretty much all of it. Setting up my microphone has now fully become a multiply-performed part of my daily work flow. I no longer fully understand the audience of my utterances as either You, My Crowd or The Mind Within Myself. Do I speak to the game? To its erstwhile makers? To future historians? I cannot say. However I *can* talk, and I *do* talk--a LOT--in all these footages I today proffer to your on-a-whimsical playlisting.
A fair portion of my workday, these days, revolves around predicting questions people will ask and then answering before they can ask them. Eleven times out of twelve they ask them anyway, though that's nobody's actual fault. I can sense the question of "How does a video qualify as 'Get Bonus' instead of 'Fukubukuro'?" I've already tried to answer this question twice in these three paragraphs. Let's face the fact that I just don't know. I entered this Bonus Feature Creation Mindset from the angle of "Fukubukuro is for unedited, raw, big, weird stuff and Get Bonus is for more composed, behind-the-scenesy stuff", though today's Video Delivery Package stretches those definitions to the point where I have to just say I don't know.
Maybe you will find this amusing: since uploading the original SIXTY HOURS of Fukubukuro Content back in April, I have received an average of three messages per two weeks from Patreon backers who have only just discovered it. None of them seem angry that it took them so long to find, though some of them do come across as a little annoyed. A few of them express outright joy that they finally eureka-stumbled onto the playlist after previously only skimming the admittedly enormous and purposely overwrought Blog Post where I philosophized on the daunting nature of a task so mundane as "let's make 'Bonus Content' that feels 'right' for my 'personality'". I enjoy that a person can be a money-paying allegiance-pledged connoisseur of Action Button Reviews without frothing for exclusive trinkets. I love that most of The Most of you (as far as I can tell, anyway) don't care one way or the other about Bonus Content. And I sincerely enjoy seeing some of you discover the bonus content anyway, completely accidentally. Now that that's out of the way, let me respond to the One Guy who has sent me a dozen emails since the day he two months ago discovered the Fukubukuro after a year backing this endeavor, and was absolutely furious that I hadn't Linked It More Times in my introductory post, or that I hadn't made one follow-up post "per week" afterward announcing to people that the playlist was Still There, so as to "bump" the idea back up into the email inboxes of nonetheless-dedicated viewers who have LIVES and Adult Responsibilities, You Know. To that guy, I gotta say: you are, in fact, the core demographic of this content. The long path you took to discovery is ninety-nine percent of this whole thing. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Also, hey, here's 100% more stuff. There'll be more later.
I will admit to having not fully considered the audience's experience with the Fukubukuro Content Concept when I first uploaded a load of videos. However, as reactions and comments rolled in, I realized it's probably best to flop down a big brick truck of this nonsense on a Monday morning--cater to the amply existent dual-monitor-having, work-at-home computer-programmer-type people in the crowd. Well, here it is on a Friday afternoon. I promise I had it all exported and uploaded last week. YouTube Content ID possesses that most rare and dangerous of personality combinations: meticulous AND spontaneous. It flags two or three barely audible scraps of music on the first upload, so I easily fix them for the second upload--when it decides to flag three more things, et cetera. Some of these files (hint: hilariously, the most massive of them) got flagged seven times for seven different songs. We do what we can. In egregious instances I've put titles on the screen to inform you that, yes, I know the expected piece of music is missing (for example, several old games' iconic opening theme songs). For the rest of them, I leave it up to your detective skills.
At any rate, we owe the delay between the publication of "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" and this cornucopic buffet of special features to a quiet, boring avalanche of such mudane bureaucracies. I can't be the only person who frequently typos "bureaucracy" "bureaucrazy".
However, this delay perhaps worked out for the best--it gave me plenty of time to think and reflect on "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi". A full month, in fact! So I'll spoil for you right now that one of the Fukubukuro videos contains a "post-review". It's a full forty-five-minute podcast-like uncut, one-take presentation in which I do my best to sprint through a list of every thought I've had about the review since posting it. Witness me thinking without the safety net of a ctrl+backspace keyboard shortcut, or even an unadorned backspace key.
I actually happened to record that little impromptu "post-review" exactly one year to the day after the release of "Action Button Reviews Cyberpunk 2077"--one month and one day to the day of the release of "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi", so it felt like a fun time to reflect on everything I've done this year. I did my best--as I do--to stay cagey about like 95% of what I've done this past year (wouldn't want to spoil anything coming up!), though even with just some Boku No Natsuyasumi-related reflections I think it's a decent watch. Probably a better little piece of "content" than this distinctly, persistently, insistently overwritten blogpost, anyway. Since spoilers are on the menu these past two paragraphs, I'll come right out with it: you can find that "post-review" at the very beginning of the very first video in the "Fukubukuro" playlist that uses the new thumbnail format (visible in example at the top of this very post).
Speaking of the new thumbnail format--I intend to use this for all Fukubukuro uploads coming in the future. I like it. It's got Dragon Quest, it's got a single Chinese letter. It's got a shade of pink that's as close as I personally can ever allow myself to wear to Chinese Wedding Dress Red (let's not forget I did work eight years at a Target). It's a thumbnail format perfectly formulated for me personally. Maybe the only element that could change is the "action button" logo--which is, by the way, Not A Logo. That is the "debranded" logo. The real one will arrive . . . any day now. Perhaps you will see it in the next video . . .
I recorded a couple other little "vlog"-like intros to some Fukubukuro videos, though I'll spoil that I recorded them all on the same day, after not shaving for over a month. I actually recorded one take of the presentation that finally became the "post-review" with that same horrendous camera angle and facial orientation. After Fukubukuro File #00000007 got its fourth copyright claim, I figured, you know what? Let's just sit down and record a new intro. So I did. Which means that I don't get to use this pair of paragraphs, which existed in the original draft of this Patreon post:
"My hair is bad. The lighting is bad. I need to shave. I took so long setting up the camera in a way that didn't make me feel like a freak that I wound up losing my source of bountiful natural light ("the sun"). Never send yourself to do someone else's job.
Should my vanity someday intersect with my elusive leisure, I can always record a new introduction with better lighting and hair and insert it seamlessly into this little playlist with barely a person noticing. What an acting challenge that would be--try to memorize every word as it naturally occurred, perform it like a dramatic monologue. See--that's putting even more work on it."
I did not memorize every word. I just started over. And I'll admit: I don't look much better, though I do look much better. I trimmed the beard--an action that enlightened me to the truth that a beard is just an "I haven't shaved" until the exact second you decide to trim it. If it weren't "A Beard", you wouldn't have thought twice about shaving it off completely. If it weren't a beard, why do you own a razor with a "beard trimmer" setting? Et cetera. So I find myself for the first time in my life with "a beard". He died doing what he loved: something he had never done before: growing a beard: et cetera.
Well, I started at noon and gave myself until two pm to say what I needed to say here. It's now eleven fifty-six and I realize I needed to say nothing more than "New Stuff!" with a couple of links. Never send yourself to do someone else's job, et cetera. And you know what? Maybe this Fukubukuro stuff SHOULD be someone else's job. Maybe Alex Jaffe can handle it from now on. I'll record em and he can post em. I mean, there's a thumbnail template and everything. Wouldn't it be fun for that playlist to just gradually keep filling up with impenetrable serial-numbered videos of mostly identical thumbnails? I saw some people in the Action Button Goblin Bunker (discord.gg/actionbutton) discussing putting together some kind of a Google spreadsheet index of what happens where in which file. That is my kind of idea. If you all get it going, maybe I'll go in there and edit it a bit. No, I won't add any information--that's for you all to do, lol--though I will format it to make sure it's maximally easy to look at. That's one of my few actual redeeming Job Skills: I'm a Spreadsheet Optometrics Guy.
Well, as soon as I post this update--heck. I wanted to post this at two pm, though I now realize I have to put all the videos in the correct order in the appropriate playlists and de-private them, so it's going to miss that mark by a couple minutes.
Uh. As soon as I post this, I will officially be done with "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi". I make a big deal out of talking about the exact second I am done with "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" in my post-review, though I realized the moment I began typing all this that I actually only NOW will be free of that video. I've said in previous posts here that I am working on the next six videos all at the same time. Some of you--and loudly!--doubted that. Though I hope that evident in the structure of the Boku no Natsuyasumi video you've gotten a hint of the scope of my work here. I was pleased to see some viewers going back and to the Cyberpunk 2077 video and commenting about ultra-specific foreshadowings to the Boku no Natsuyasumi video. I've no delusions of grandeur that I'm doing something great or powerful or important. If you want to think that, go right ahead! I'll choose to instead know that I am doing whatever I am doing meticulously, and that I can take satisfaction from knowing that so far only exactly six of the six hundred thousand viewers of "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" noticed the easter eggs that point deepest into the future of Action Button Reviews. That's the kind of percentage I like. I can also take satisfaction from saying that as of this moment, I am only working on the next *five* videos at the same time.
So, let's just call it right now: "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" is over. I don't even need to click "post" to know that. It's over now. I'm moving on to the next project--which I was already working way too much on until three AM. Well, I've now moved it up off the back burner and onto "Full Production". I feel the need to remind you that, as the Boku no Natsuyasumi video hopefully proves, my back burner *is* quite hot. And lordy, that front burner kills.
So maybe this is a good moment to comment on staffing.
Here at Action Button, my job title is "director". I define that title as "does a lot of everything". This contrasts with the title I give everyone else: "producer". I define "producer" as "does a little bit of everything". My Patreon is quite successful, though it does not afford me an HR department, an IT department, a marketing department, et cetera. I needed to frugally select my party of heroes. In carving out a verifiably Distinctive Style, these videos have for better or worse accumulated the baggage of logistical complexity. On-ramping any given person into this one-person enterprise always posed a drastic hurdle, so I had to choose my "producers" with care.
As a "producer", my longtime coworker and Action Button Cofounder Michael "Truck Heck" Kerwin--not nearly exhausted ENOUGH from his daily duties crafting the loudest video trucks possible--will assist in editing Action Button Reviews from this point on. Though Kerwin's job title at Action Button has usually been "programmer", I do not hesitate to say he's as much a "Game Designer" as I have ever been. When you, as I have, burn your way all the way out of triple-A studios and decide to eternally quest forth with a skeleton crew, you need good skeletons. I could have never "directed" any video games at all without a programmer who was also a game designer. So that's Kerwin. His job here at the Video Department of Action Button Entertainment will see him editing the videos. That's the part I genuinely *like* to do, myself, though there comes a time in a man's life where he's gotta say: let's let someone else do the fun part. That is also why I bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner today, after debating it for a couple years. *I* like vacuuming, though I don't think our current vacuum is as much fun for Mimsy as it could be. Et cetera. Uh. I see a similar mechanism at play with bringing in Kerwin. He is the Dyson vacuum of editing Action Button Reviews. If I had to give Kerwin a secondary, Shadow Job Title, it'd be "The Designer".
As a "producer", Christa Lee, owner of SoundRetro.co, game music composer, and video game console modification specialist, will similarly assist in editing videos. I figure, if she can replace the DVD drive in a Nintendo Wii, name more than six CDi games, *and* compose the entire soundtrack for one of the best (not-actually-Japanese) Japanese Role Playing Games of recent years, she can probably do this stupid thing I do all day better than I can. Christa helped invaluably with the Boku no Natsuyasumi review--capturing a LOT of clips of video games that I was too lazy to play myself. By now, readers of these posts and viewers of the Fukubukuro who have watched "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi" have a pretty good idea of just how many games I played to gather materials for those montages of "PlayStation Masterpieces", or "Too-Japanese" games. With today's Fukubukuro you'll get another large piece of that montage puzzle. Though quietly and burning-brightly behind the boisterosity of the Fukubukuro are the many toiling hours of un-commentaried, ultra-specific footage I begged of Christa Lee. As a person daily entrenched in up-to-the-elbowsedly engaging with the most persnickety aspects of what Star Trek would consider Ancient Technology, Christa Lee finds little unexpectable in the task of capturing well-played reference-quality video footage of pretty much any video game I personally can possibly think of (and I can think of a LOT). She'll be appearing on some streams--I may even give her The Keys to the Action Button Twitch channel at some point in the future--and she'll even be recording some Fukubukuros, in addition to--as implied in that job title of "producer"--a little bit of everything else that I myself do over here. Follow her on Twitter, where she bravely tweets good stuff during this dark era wherein I, for example, clutch everything greedily for myself. If I had to give Christa Lee a shadow job title beneath that purposely nebulous title of producer, I'd call her "The Connoisseur".
Lastly and probably not leastly (the "probably" is the most I can commit here, in an attempt at absolute fairness), we have Alex Jaffe. If you have followed my work for more than six minutes and one second, you probably know Alex Jaffe. He hosts a podcast I am often on, which I designed and everything.
As a "producer", Alex Jaffe will--well. He will have the extreme bad luck of having known me for more than ten years, and also the worse luck of living less than a half an hour's walk from me here in this nightmarish Too-Hot-For-Dark-Souls doubly named city of New York, New York. Alex Jaffe, in addition to editing videos and doing a little bit of everything like everyone else here does, will be assigned the most meticulous and terrible of tasks. Keeping spreadsheets, archiving livestreams, posting Fukubukuros, maintaining ongoing individual Premiere projects and logs of Every Single Video Game I Play With No Exceptions Ever Because I Am *LOOKING* For Something God Darn It And I Won't Know What It Is Until I've Found It, Jaffe. As a frequent list-maker and question-thinker-upper, as an unstoppable knower of DC Comics-related facts and figures, names and numbers, Alex Jaffe lands uniquely suited to conquer the granular demands of the typical Action Button Review development process. (By the way: it no longer feels pretentious at all, for me personally, to refer to these videos as "developed".) I've said before--and I'll say again--that the "magic", as it were, of an Action Button Review "happens in the log"--in that phase wherein I put my eyeballs on raw footage of the game under review, note patterns, pull out excerpts, craft tentative montages, and polish particular narrations. More eyeballs on more logs--if the logic follows--means more magic. So let's get Jaffe in there. If I had to give Jaffe a shadow job title underneath that title of "producer", it would be "The Collector".
In summary, I've chosen three people who I feel each better embody a little part of myself that I always wanted to refine and never found the time. The Designer, The Connoisseur, and The Collector. That's the triforce of "me". With these three powerful people cooperating seamlessly, I believe we can better make videos that represent the kinds of videos I want to make as "me". Which is a hypnotic roundabout way of saying I want to make videos With Other People and I feel the need to flowerily explain to you, the Fan Of "Me", why these people are Basically Me, Actually. I mean no arrogance in this: we're all of us basically each other, Jerry. Let's drill down on that. Let me just try to be funny about it for a couple paragraphs.
If you'd like to know how well this team works at making a finished, complete, beautiful video--well, so would I. So let me go ahead and post this real quick so I can find out as soon as possible. Look for this New Action Button in the next video! If we can post it before the end of the year, that'd feel amazing. Though I dare not make any estimates or promises aside from: we got good stuff coming.
Much as I prefer to keep my bonus content nebulous, un-advertised, and as mysterious as possible, I want to once again proclaim my plans to produce a "Director's Commentary" re-watch video for Action Button Reviews The Final Fantasy VII Remake. I have not watched that video since posting it, and I drastically look forward to watching it again for the purpose of this bonus feature. In my previous post I asked you to send me any questions you have about that particular review--I have received many, though please keep them coming. Hello At Action Button Dot Com, subject line "FFVIIR Q&A". Exact timestamps for the review are greatly appreciated. I talk a little bit more about this in the "post-review" for "action button reviews boku no natsuyasumi", which you can see as the first video using the new thumbnail format in the "Fukubukuro" playlist on Action Button Channel Two. Don't confuse the Fukubukuro playlist with the "Get Bonus" playlist, even though I can absolutely, bodily understand the confusion. Do you like how I reposted that link all the way here at the end of the post? I did that on purpose.
Ah, heck, now the Fukubukuro and Get Bonus playlist links aren't in the last paragraph anymore. Someone's gonna miss them . . . You know. I've committed myself to never, ever advertising the existence of Action Button bonus features. If I did, though, I'd be able to say stuff like "I released Over One Hundred Hours Of Bonus Features So Far This Year . . . And There's More Where That Came From!!" I commit myself to not advertising This Thing enough, much less at all. Though if you wanted to tell your friends--sort of urban-legendarily--that I Released Over One Hundred Hours Of Bonus Features So Far This Year And Didn't Advertise It Anywhere . . . And There's More Coming! . . . you could go ahead and do that. I wouldn't stop you.
Well. That's all I got. Thank You.

lord. wait. what is this. lmao when i choose to bulk-update a bunch of videos to "unlisted" does a literal guy at youtube have to go into that clunky interface one by one and click the "visibility" dropdown? lol why is this taking like ten minutes
ah wait it's done. ok bye
