"Where are early access audios?" I hear you asking. "Didn't Velvet say they would be out unless she got hit by lightning?"

Well, good news! I did not get hit by lightning! Thanks, lucky stars!

Bad news...

(Please excuse potato photo quality, my phone was whittled from a Ponderosa pine by a prospector in 1848.)

My recording space shares a wall with a bathroom, and one corner is up against a shower specifically. Wednesday morning, while I was sitting down to work, water started cheerfully spurting from between panels of acoustic foam.

"Huh!" I said to myself. "That's weird! Why is that happening?"

I went to pull down the foam panel to see what was up.

And the drywall fell off.

It fell off.

It fell the fuck off.*

I blinked at it for a few seconds, then gently pulled up the corner of another panel. More wall flopped away and hit the floor with a soggy fump.

It was around the sixth panel that I realized my week was not going to go the way I hoped.

Turns out there was a pinhole leak and the drywall behind the shower was...not? I mean, I knew my walls were thin, but I was sort of laboring under the impression they were at least 90% wall? 80% at the outside?

Nah. The "drywall" behind the shower was mostly repair fabric, patching plaster and foam board, which has been slowly turning to gloppy oatmeal behind my sound treatment. You may know this particular shortcut as "the cheap flipper/landlord special." I assume the person responsible is in league with the devil, and I will be hunting them for sport at my earliest convenience. Stay tuned for "The Most Dangerous Game: Terrible Handyman Edition!"

I have no idea how long repairs will take, especially with everything else going on. I've spent my free time over the last couple days moving everything to the other side of the space, cleaning up, and taking more of the Not-Wall down so someone can come in and fix stuff whenever. There will be a resulting slight dip in audio quality for a bit just because part of the room is no longer treated. My production schedule is also haywire -- or, more than it was, anyway. (Today's public audio will hit early access tonight, and YouTube tomorrow, ftr.)

But it's okay. I shall persevere! Streaks of terrible luck have to end sometime!

...they do have to end, right?

Right?

(ó﹏ò。)

*With apologies to Ron White, it's been a long week

Gotta admire Velvet still having a good sense of humor about the whole affair, it must've all been terribly frustrating. Stay strong!
