QUICK mini gesture study, #15!
Legs.
Powerful, graceful, expressive.
Tip #1 - make a light, quick, no-fuss mark to indicate to yourself where the bottom of the foot/feet will be, so you can encourage yourself to utilize your space efficiently and effectively. Don't leave them out just because they are challenging, if you find them to be. Always indicate them, whenever possible, they ground the gesture.
Tip #2 - The legs express and they give away a most important thing to understand about any given figure, and that is: how the weight is distributed. As a good general rule, the leg/foot most directly underneath and aligned with the head, is the weight-bearing leg of the pose. If the legs are fairly equidistant, apart from the head, the weight is dispersed more evenly between them. This knowledge about weight distribution helps when capturing the line of action in a pose, and understanding how it impacts the hips/spine/shoulders balance.
Have a great weekend everyone!
