From the Bunker - What I'm Playing / Watching, etc.

Greetings, one and all!

I'm broadcasting from a bunker at Starlight Drive-In, as the ricochet of raider shots ring outside and the threat of radioactive mutants looms on the horizon. If you haven't guessed yet, that means I'm playing Fallout 4, the post-apocalyptic epic from Bethesda Game Studios.

This is a game I've loved in the past (nearly 400 hours on my first playthrough), but haven't really touched in a long time. And now, I'm waist-deep in the wasteland all over again, and it feels so damn good.

I've been taking some time off from game development to recoup from the final release of Sanctuary in Time, and to also focus on the upcoming release of my new book (more details on that later). And while doing so, I've found myself strangely fixed on the post-apocalyptic genre. Whether it be diving back into a game like Fallout 4, watching television series like Logan's Run (yes, they did a tv show - and it's good!) or Station Eleven, or delving the depths of Amazon's listings for dark sci-fi adventures.

Speaking of Station Eleven, if you like post-apocalyptic sci-fi or good character dramas in general, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. It focuses on a traveling troupe of Shakespearean performers as they wander the circuit of the wasteland left after a flu wiped out the world. But it's also so much more than that. In many ways, it defies description and revealing too much would lead to spoilers. But suffice to say, it's a truly beautiful production loaded to the hilt with high-caliber performances. I can't recommend it highly enough. In particular, Mackenzie Davis shines as the knife-wielding lead. I really enjoyed her work in Halt and Catch Fire and Terminator: Dark Fate, and found her a delight in this project as well.

So, do you all have any favorite post-apocalyptic films, tv series or games you'd like to recommend? I'm all ears and eager for good suggestions. Let me know! But...

Above all else, have fun!
