And my brother-in-law had PTSD from 3 tours in Vietnam. A couple of days a month, he just couldn't go to work because of stress (fortunately, his supervisor was very understanding). My BIL would lie on the sofa all day with his cat, Murphy, lying on his chest, purring the whole time. My BIL said the cat got him through the worst of times. He went to therapy eventually, fortunately.

2023-04-06 15:31:06 +0000 UTCWhen I had cancer in 1990, the chemotherapy every 2 weeks would give me 8 straight hours of severe vomiting, every 10 minutes. It would stop as suddenly as it started. I would then take a shower, and force myself to stay awake so I could adequately rehydrate. During the 8 hours, I would curl up on my bed. Any movement would bring on the next run to the bathroom. My cats would crouch on a hard chair at the end of the bed for the entire 8 hours, watching me. Only when they could tell I was through getting sick would they join me on the bed.

I’m in Florida he is in NY, so I really can’t be there for him physically. So the cat is his closet family. My sister lives nearby but she is a hardcore Trumper so my dad would rather deal with the cat than her nonsense.
