Bestiary Book Direction #1

Hey everyone!

As I've been building out the bestiary book, I've been noting down the genus of animal that the Sol'Kesh creatures have evolved from. Which is technically correct, but I'm starting to think it's not as easy to grasp compared to if I instead wrote Stem Evolution instead. While a genus is better at a wider range of species, it often requires an online search for the term for the readers and I'm sure most won't bother.

So my question is, should I simplify this?

For example, to change:

Genus Derived Evolution: Eudyptes
to
Stem Evolution: Crested Penguins

Comments

In the end I think both is the best move, creating a more detailed index on evolution should fit nicely

Terry Maranda

I voted for the derived genus however i agree that it should be both. I’m sure many probably haven’t but i often do look up the genus if i don’t already know it

Derek Ernst

That's not a bad idea, especially when some creatures may share a derived genus...

Terry Maranda

Would it be unreasonable to go the fancy route and then have a page at the back with a current species example (or general group, ex: crested penguin or penguins) for every genus used in the book?
