final Changes+Stopping the leaks at it's source+limiting the size of my patreon
Added 2016-10-03 23:58:19 +0000 UTCHello Everyone
A few days ago, I've made 2 posts about making changes to my Patreon mainly to deal with leaks and pirating of my work. One of them was to watermark all the JPGs and the PSDs. Some of you were in support of my decision and some of you were not as it would hinder the quality of the image.
I will no longer watermark the JPGs or PSDs.
(I will, of course, still put my signature in them like what I've always done)
Why did I go back on my decision?
I have thought about the whole watermark issue and how it will compromise the quality of the rewards and that would put most of my patrons at a disadvantage.I decided to consider alternatives to combat leaks/piracy, one that I find will be more effective. I will not go into it, but just know it will not hinder the quality of the rewards in any way :)
Taking down leaks
This won’t be done by me alone, of course, because this involves a lot more work but will make it easier to detect. This is the part where the internet can work both ways. If they post it online, I will instead try to track down the individuals. I know this won’t prevent leaks right away, but over time, I hope to see some change and will work towards that day.
Consequences for Leaking
Before I discuss further, I want to clarify, sharing is fine as long as it's not posted publicly online, meaning private messaging or anything discrete is acceptable - where if I were to look up the image, I should not be able to find it.(This especially goes out to those who are monetizing my work without my express consent.) If you plan to share with your friends or community, please make sure they do not post it online. If I were to trace any leaked content leading to a person, I will be blocking them from my Patreon and adding them to a list of leakers. I may or may not make that list public.
Blacklist for Leakers
Ideally, I do want to create a public list of those that are found to be leakers. That way, any content creators can refer to that list for their own benefit. I’m not sure if it’ll be legal or morally right, if anyone think Theres a better way to handle such a list let me know.
Limiting the number of patrons, tightening up the community
As some of you already noticed, I have capped the number of patrons for each tier meaning new patrons will not be able to sign on until a spot opens. I have done this to try to prevent leakers that will re-join with new accounts if I block their old one. That's why I will be monitoring new patrons more closely and reducing the number of new patrons will be easier for me to do so.
What will happen now
- To repeat, there will be no more watermark only my signature on thePSDs+JPGs
- measures will be taken to track down leaks/pirates
- tracking down leaks every month/weekly base.
Conclusion
I think this will be my final decision as I feel this way will be the best to combat leaks/ piracy without punishing those who are honest: ) I will be serious on this. Thank you all for the support and wish me luck on my pirate hunt!
October will most likely be another singled termed month as I will be put down the measures needed to track down leaks in place. Expect a bit of delay for rewards for term 41 as well but they will be send out asap : ) thank you everyone for your understating.

2016-10-12 13:38:36 +0000 UTCSo, I just wanted to express my feelings about this briefly. I myself have been having some troubles financially at times to be able to keep on as a patreon even though I love the work you do and have never shared a single piece of your art, and you've been very willing to work with me and, assumption wise, many others who may have the same issues going on or may have just missed a term they really wanted. The only thing that hinders me about this is that the spot I have been freely choosing to move in and out from may not be there after such a time when I find myself scrapping by and unfortunately have to cut myself off to be sure I get by, so it just sort of pains me about it. Hopefully you'll have an answer for me Sakimi, but its understandable if not. - One of Your Loyal Patreons

2016-10-11 23:42:09 +0000 UTCI have not received my Patreon Reward even though my Creditcard has already been charged and it is already Oct. 11 here. I am assuming I got accidentally skipped when you were handing out the rewards.
2016-10-11 23:41:53 +0000 UTCThis is a bit of good news to me. Because I paid for content in 2015 and due to my poor internet access I wasn't able to download it. And when I finally updated my internet provider, the download link was locked >_

2016-10-11 11:42:41 +0000 UTCI think she means the time you have to download the art will be extended to five months instead of just one month.
2016-10-10 16:41:35 +0000 UTCI'm not sure what you mean from one month to five? Does that mean if we got the September term,we wont be able to view it until february?

2016-10-10 15:04:54 +0000 UTChey sakimichan! I am a little confused as what you mean to 1month to 5??? Does this mean the change will in 1-5 months??? Just wanna make sure I understand :)
2016-10-10 11:24:37 +0000 UTCSorry! the files takes longer than I expected to process. The link will actually be sent to your email instead of patreon message. the limit for the download time will be changed from 1 month to 5. sorry for the delay. :(

2016-10-10 04:45:54 +0000 UTCI am confused, what do you mean by folder? *_* do you mean on your computer? if it's on your computer it should be fine. *_*

2016-10-10 04:23:07 +0000 UTChavent got mine, and hopefully i can get it soon.
2016-10-09 18:00:46 +0000 UTCHi i will happily make the folder private or even remove it if needs be, you can decide. But as a new teir 2 member since this afternoon I have been compiling your art work in my favourites on this site only and have named the folder "SAKIMICHAN ART". please let me know if this is ok as i am loving your work and would hate to jeopardize later viewing of it. Cheers ElJay x
2016-10-09 07:42:16 +0000 UTCIs there a problem with the rewards? I haven heard or gotten any messages. And it's the 9th now..
2016-10-09 07:20:20 +0000 UTCNope. She hasn't sent it out yet. I've been checking everyday. #impatient. XD
2016-10-09 05:21:49 +0000 UTCHi I still have not received the reward for my tier level from last month. I read it was delayed. Just checking if it was still delayed or accidently missed. Love your artwork by the way. It's brilliant. Xxx
2016-10-09 01:17:20 +0000 UTCI'll keep supporting you whatever steps you take to protect your work. you make such beautiful art and you should protect it as best you can, from those who doesn't respect the copyright of others.
2016-10-08 16:58:05 +0000 UTCAs usual, I'm late to the party and just now catching up on all the news. Sakima, it's your art and you have the right to protect your work. I think you've reached a good compromise that will allow you to protect your work (and find the pirates) while doing your best to keep your patrons happy. I've honestly been amazed at the value you've given us. We get beautiful art from you every term for a very modest contribution to you. I'm one of the folks who really won't miss the PSD's simply because I'm one of those untalented folks who's lucky to draw stick figures. I just enjoy seeing your finished product! Best of luck to you and I'll still be here supporting you - including letting you know if I see anyone out there trying to profit from your art.
Myron
2016-10-08 11:36:14 +0000 UTCI will support your decisions. I agree that is better to you.

2016-10-08 06:52:31 +0000 UTCHey Sakimi! I'm new to Patreon, so I'm sorry if this is an obvious question. I signed up to this on the 30th of Septemeber, so will I be able to get Term 41?
2016-10-08 04:43:12 +0000 UTCHello, forgive the random question. I'm new and I have yet to receive the 41 term message when will they be sent or due to all this it will be delayed?

2016-10-07 12:33:27 +0000 UTCKeep up the good work love your stuff. There are only a few artists I follow and your the only one im a patron for.
2016-10-07 04:43:05 +0000 UTCSakimi, If we find your work being sold on amazon or redbubble or something like that, should we email you (or contact you some other way)? Would that be helpful? I know I've seen at least 2 different people selling your work before, but wasn't sure whether I should try and contact you or just let it be. I'm rather new to the art community, so I wasn't sure how to handle something like that.
2016-10-07 01:02:04 +0000 UTCI found you over pirated works and DeviantArt and I'm happy to be one of your patreons. It is your decision and I will support you, no matter what. :)

2016-10-06 06:03:18 +0000 UTCI am not trying to hunt down people that is sharing works because they like my work, I am trying to prevent people that is abusing the good will of those people and selling the work without my consent. I am hoping that by doing this people who wants to share is willing to put more thoughts into who and what community they want to share it in. There is always the chance of space emptying up for the slots, I always have around 40-50 people drop after the rewards are sent out. :)

2016-10-06 03:29:47 +0000 UTCJust to check, I occasionally use your work as avatars on game sites/forums. It's not in large form, and I'm always happy to tell people where I found it. Is that ok? (I found you on Patreon partly so I'd have a way to give back for my use.)
2016-10-05 16:20:38 +0000 UTCWell I'm actually happy you changed your mind. Of course it is your art and therefore your call whether you watermark it or not. But as much as I like your art I am not willing to pay for watermarked pictures. Signature is very much welcome as it adds to the art but I feel like watermark degrades it. So I am happy with your decision because it means I will be able to continue supporting you and get what I want for my money making it a happy deal for both of us :)
2016-10-05 14:27:16 +0000 UTCI am happy that you decided against the watermarks. As always, love your art, and good luck with the pirate hunt!
2016-10-05 13:46:33 +0000 UTCSakimi, as many have said, we'll support whatever path you decide. We want you to be able to enjoy what you do and share it with us without it being a stress point of being exploited. If there is anything particular you would like us to do when we come across your art in other websites, let us know and we'll do it!

2016-10-05 00:53:05 +0000 UTCHey Sakimi~ I've just recently subbed to your patreon but I've been a long time fan and supporter of your work. Its very unfortunate to have your artwork stolen and used for other purposes. However, all of us here will continue to support you. In time, I would hope that the piracy dwindles and you can focus fully on what you love. As we all would like to see your creations and your continuos improvement, stay strong and make your mystical creations! :D

2016-10-04 08:23:58 +0000 UTCI would support you no matter what. But I think this final decision is better. I hope very much that a leaker blacklist used habitually by online artists becomes the norm. 🙌🎯

2016-10-04 06:42:19 +0000 UTCI think it's great that you are going to take a stand against the leaking! The changes are more than acceptable, lower size psd's shouldn't hinder anyone trying to learn from your workflow. The best of luck with your pirate hunt! If I stumble upon any of your work that is meant to be an exclusive I'll let you know!

2016-10-04 05:42:07 +0000 UTCIt's worse than that, because cyberbullying or things like that can go both way. Who knows what the "shamed leakers" may do in retaliation? No matter what happen, having an uncontrollable community hunting in your name can backfire, and it's the creator that will suffer in the end, not the community doing the hunt. Sakimi should keep the blacklist private, and share it on demand if she want to help other creators, but at her own discretion. Just like the "pirate hunt" shouldn't be publicly supported, she should do that with a group of people she trusts, behind the scene. Encouraging people to do their own justice can make things go wrong very quickly, I hope Sakimi has thought about it longly before taking any risk.
AlphaPizza
2016-10-04 05:34:00 +0000 UTCSupporting you at 100%. It's your art, your Patreon, you decide ! It's sad you have to do this but somehow it find that... "pleasant" to be a member of a restricted community, like if we were all "special and lucky" to be able to be your patreons ^^
Ewilan (beledhien)
2016-10-04 05:17:32 +0000 UTCWhooo ~ it's been a crazy couple of days. @w@ Thank you for taking so much time informing us with all your info ~ :D I don't think I saw any info about this in the final changes, but I was wondering if you are still going to restrict psds to Tiers 3+? And if you're still resizing them? :0 And I do think the blacklist idea sounds like a good idea, but it might be a little tricky singling out people and handling the backlash of that public shaming. :0 I don't know if having a public abbreviated list of some sort would work best or just keeping a list in private and just sharing with any creator that might be interested in it? Online harassment/hunting from the massive public could cause serious damage to the culprit and could turn into major cyberbullying, even if they do deserve it for leaking things/selling things for profit in the first place. XP Handling people who sell things on ebay, amazon, etc. is a much easier process since you can just report them without having much contact. xwx All I can say is to be careful in how you approach this blacklist concept ~ and like someone else mentioned, you might want to seek out some legal advice on the matter. Anywho ~ I'll still support you with your decisions and if I have any concerns, I'll definitely let you know. :D
Mizuki
2016-10-04 05:13:49 +0000 UTCAfter thinking about this for a while, I want to add a little more to my thoughts. I just want to say that you should be careful about the way that you handle this. Obviously these pirates are in the wrong for using your work with out permission. There is no debate there. But I think you should be careful about how you direct your community to support in reporting pirates. Even with the best of intentions, things can go too far. In the end, this community's focus should be about you and your art not a community focused on hunting pirates. I don't know if I'm expressing my thoughts well enough but there it is. I just want you to be smart about the way you handle this.

2016-10-04 03:22:05 +0000 UTCThank you Sakimichan! I'll do my little bit by keeping a lookout for pirated use of your art pieces too!
2016-10-04 03:20:04 +0000 UTCI like the idea of limiting the number of patrons. It seems to me that you hit a point where you are making enough money to support yourself very comfortably and that your main concern now is artistic integrity, rather than just piling on subscribers to making more and more money that begins to mean less and less to you. It is a nice problem to have. If you can limit and control a smaller group of patrons and weed out bad actors you stand a much better chance of actually preventing privacy than your previous idea. I'm just glad I subscribed when I did! Good luck to you going forward, I look forward to my first tier delivery!
HamboneWilson
2016-10-04 03:06:37 +0000 UTCI'd strongly advise against trying to disseminate any blacklist of people you think leaked your work because you'll be opening yourself up to a number of legal liabilities in the various countries you have patrons, even if you feel your reasons for doing so are factually or ethically correct. Issues such as that are traditionally tried as publication of private facts. Definitely consult a lawyer before even thinking about posting identifiable information on those people online.
2016-10-04 02:56:49 +0000 UTCWhen you found a pirate as well as your stolen works, please make a post here with the pirate and his site's info ... so that, we all can jump in to help you to get rid of the pirate et al.
Frank Leo
2016-10-04 02:51:31 +0000 UTCNo matter what you choose to do you will still have a huge fan base that follows you. When you're the best at something, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I could care less how you choose to combat piracy, I will pay whatever I need to in order to keep all the happiness and joy that your art provides. Art is way more expensive than what sakimichan charges, as her patrons were are very blessed.

2016-10-04 02:34:52 +0000 UTCI would have preferred the seal before file loss level 2, fewer and fewer things for that reward
2016-10-04 01:53:10 +0000 UTCOh wow, this is quite the change in direction. Its definitely an interesting course of action to take and I'm really curious to see the effects of this. Hopefully, those effects are to the benefit of you and your peace of mind. As long as you're happy with your decision, that is all I care about. Tightening up the community in order to easier track down the source of leaks is an interesting idea that I wouldn't have thought of. Honestly, the fact that you would limit the number of people that can pledge and in turn limit the income you would get from Patreon says a lot about how seriously you are about the leak issue. I'm unsure how you plan to track back the people who leak your content, but it seems like you have an idea about it and will trust in you. I wish you the best of luck in tracking these people down.

2016-10-04 01:49:19 +0000 UTCI have decided that this community is something I no longer wish to engage in Sakimichan. Sorry but this whole mess has stressed me out on a very touchy date for me and has made it clear this isn't an art community but a bunch of people obsessed with 'getting their money's worth'. As I said I will still support you but I will no longer be a part of this.

2016-10-04 01:41:04 +0000 UTCYou keep saying "it's not fair", but it's not her job to be fair. This isn't an issue of fairness or justice. It's about what she considers will be the best decision for her and her work. Your arguments would probably be more convincing if you could boil them down to something other than "it's not fair".

2016-10-04 01:19:44 +0000 UTCMake a public list of the leakers, Name and shame them. Make people aware that people will not get away with it.
Hopeofhell
2016-10-04 01:19:24 +0000 UTCIt sucks that some legitimate honest people that will want to support your work won't be able to because of a couple of leakers who got no souls, and it sucks that you will lose those potentials benefits... :/ But if you feel like that's the right decision and makes you feel better about sharing your work on patreon, I still support your choices a 100%. :)

2016-10-04 00:57:37 +0000 UTCHigh gratitude, Sakimichan, for relieving the vastly honest and abiding over the few dishonest and outliers ^^ As others have made mention, the energy you pour into your art and the reward tiers organized indeed seem generous and are positively appreciated! That should not be dismissed in the slightest. Even still, I do agree completely that watermarks, whilst perhaps seemingly innocuous, indeed do severely degrade the aesthetic energy and positive feelings, even creating negative energy, and as a blanket might attempt to address one problem whilst creating plenty more for plenty folk. Even if others will not make public statements to such degree, I believe many feel the same way, and likewise that ultimately the measures taken with your art are contemplative and that we should not presume to understand your perspective like we understand our own. All that aside, I shall look forward to your incredible art and tutorials as they are given life... of how majestic and surreal they are, and practical and informative :D *hoists a pirate-hunting flag in support*

2016-10-04 00:40:36 +0000 UTCHave you thought about opening up the $70 tier a little bit? Prints are somewhat tougher to copy than jpegs. (Also I neeeeeeed them!)
2016-10-04 00:38:32 +0000 UTCI will support you!
Konda
2016-10-04 00:37:16 +0000 UTCI normally only sign up every once in awhile when I see something I like eg. Line art tutorial these past two months. And I always try to get in the 20 dollars tier to get two months worth rather than constantly stay on the pledge. The pirates can simply never leave the pledge since they will continue trying to sell your new works for their own personal gain, meaning the only ones losing out are people like me who pledge when we see something we like that month, or new people that want to support your art, as well as yourself for limiting how much you can make each month. I think limiting the cap will not benefit any of us in the long run, but hunting the pirates down will at least give you the ability to do dmca type activity.
Bryan
2016-10-04 00:36:17 +0000 UTCI'm glad the watermarking was reconsidered, but I was hoping to occasionally hop on and support a term which catches my fancy from time to time to get the PSD's, but with the limit now... and it already being full my luck is out.

2016-10-04 00:29:35 +0000 UTCWhatever you decide to do I whole-heartedly support it. Leakers and pirates are the bane of every creative person and have been strangling the creative community for years. I'm with darktown art on this one; I was fine with your previous solutions and I will be perfectly fine with any others you come up with. Stay strong, be true to yourself, and fight the good fight!
Long Division
2016-10-04 00:26:59 +0000 UTCI agree with a lot of this. I still think this proposal is less fair than water marking since it locks people who wouldn't abuse your work out entirely. But you are being super generous with your rewards and I think some of the people here have forgotten that.
CandleBriar
2016-10-04 00:26:11 +0000 UTCI haven't said anything about this yet, however, since I have been a long time supporter, I feel like I should also add something into the mix now. I personally wouldn't have minded watermarked work. After all you were giving away A LOT for the tiers paid. and I find it very sorry that there are people around there who think that your generosity should be abused. I m aware that a lot of people are jealous of the amount of money that you make and might think for that reason that their behavior is justified. However, You are working SO MUCH to create all this content, hardly ever taking a day off, that I think all you are making here is justified, and that leaking your content is unfair towards those who pay money for it. Therefore I find the idea of a blacklist to be a good idea. It is only fair, also towards other creators, to know what people to look out for. This is just my two cents of course.
DarkTownArt
2016-10-04 00:22:20 +0000 UTCI was fine with the watermarks and I honestly think this will punish people more since loyal patreons won't be able to sign up or change their pledge amounts. It also won't solve the fact that once a piece is leaked it will stay leaked and become increasingly more likely to be edited to remove your signature. I will still support you but I really feel this is way less fair and places all new comers under the 'possible criminal' banner.
CandleBriar
2016-10-04 00:20:24 +0000 UTCWhile I could see it as an issue if a dedicated follower wants to change to a higher paying tier or back out for a month or two due to financial issues, I can also see how this can really help. I support you in this and will continue looking forward to seeing and learning from your wonderful work. Cheers!
