If you have any questions about Kibo-chan's system or anything else related to photography, please feel free to ask.

I'll be happy to answer as many as I can.

Kibo-chan is based on the robot "DARWIN MINI" from ROBOTIS. So you can start from here. A servo motor of it is XL-320, which is small, light, and economical. http://www.robotis.us/robotis-mini/ However, in addition to the servo motors XL320, I used a special servo motor called XM430 into the Kibo-chan's hip. This is so powerful but much expensive (about 250$ each). These type of servo motors are having a function that allows me to read current position using a serial communication like a USB cable. So, Kibo-chan is directly connected to my laptop PC (No raspberry PI or Arduino). Please refer to the "U2D2" from ROBOTIS. Kibo-chan's software is initially created by me, C++. But recently I found a very useful software "chataigne" made in France. This software enables us to record the data and playback with audio. This software is also work in progress and has some bugs, but I have confidence that Chataigne has the most important software I have ever seen for Kibo-chan. http://benjamin.kuperberg.fr/chataigne/en

I have a few questions, you said you are using servos for kiba, are you using a raspberry pi or an arduino? How is learning movement? Are there basic schematics open to the public that we can use for reference for understanding how something like this is built? i am also very interested in the programming side of things along with the robotics.

The final goal of Kibo-chan's project is to create a new culture. Each person has their own robot like the present smartphone and shares the physical expression itself. Everyone will be able to create and enjoy silent cinematic and pantomime-like body expressions. Now I am making Kibo-chan as a prototype for that. So far, the upper half of the body is made, and the lower half of the body is yet to come. Regarding Kibo-chan's future development as a character, I think that the story of Kibo-chan, who is curious as she travels around the world, will be developed while creating the lower body and movement functions. So that the view of the world described above can be directed so that it is not so far in the future.

Compared to the hardware side of things, how much planning do you end up doing around the personality side of things for Kibo-chan? The video content, outfits, and music choice blend really well to compose her appeal and I'm curious how these things inform your development process.
