Texturing the core tea house

For the missing core part of this set - the actual tea house - I started looking at floor plans of tea houses. This helped me to design my own room structure. With this finalized I could then decide how the walls would have to look, to support that.

What all classical tea houses have in common, is a "regular" entrance on one side and a humble "crawl" entrance on the other. The person holding the tea ceremony would enter through the regular entrance and prepare everything. Then when the ceremony starts the others would enter through the humble entrance crawling through the small opening, no matter what their status is in life.

So in the pic above you see a texture variation with the crawl entrance on the right side below the bamboo grill.

The next image shows the regular entrance on the other side.

Of course this is just one texture variation. I have added the classic wall versions in the usual two shoji variations.

If you want a more generic looking tea house, I have also added plain shoji variations.

Here is a look at full shoji panels of the core building ...

... and some half shoji panels as another variant.

I will add some more layout variants for the generic versions to allow mixing different shoji versions.

For the alternate build with clay wall and without the raised platform and veranda roof, I have completed the base texturing and need to add the doors and windows. I will show you the details of that build next time.

I am very happy with the multiple different looks I am able to create with the set so far.

Happy building,

Chris
