Starting with mast and sails
Added 2018-09-10 09:20:11 +0000 UTCTo get our beautiful gunboat moving, we need sails ... and masts and ratlines.
Above you see a very early test on how to attach the sails to the mast. I then realized also I should include ratlines to help the mast stand on it's own (#myfingersnotincluded :-) ).
I then thought about all the other ships I want to build and that they too will need not only masts, but of different thickness and length. So I started to look at the different masts and am now favoring a little "system" or mast setup.
When looking at the high mast of big ships like the galleon, I notice that they are split and put together. So this is what I want to copy.
Here you see first tests of this approach. I am trying different thickness, so I can have a one-size-fits-all mast system. For the gunboat we would only need the thinner part without the rest. But for a three mast galleon we could use these masts and cut them to different lengths for good looks.
Once I am happy with a usable length setting, I need to figure out a ratline setup, so the masts will be able to stand without falling and be removable.
I am also in the process of updating the textures and adding loads of color variations. Expect to see a demo soon :-)
