Weekend treasures

With the Wako ship at a good stage, this weekend I looked at my collection of sketches and ideas and found some smaller projects I wanted to work on. Sometime in the future I will need crates, barrels and treasure chests for scenes with pirates, harbors and villages. I have worked on crates and barrels some years ago but with a more stylized, illustrator-ish look.

This time I am going for a more realistic look. One little project I did on Sunday afternoon was this treasure chest above. I yet have to add some variation layers and the weathering but I think it will be ready for a not so far in the future set.

The day before, on Saturday I started revisiting the barrels. My old 8-sided barrels had 8 internal segment parts that made the full assembly almost rock solid. It is very durable but of course it takes the time to make the 8 additional parts. So this time I tried out what happens, when I use my dual layer approach. So these new barrels have only two layers of paper but once the glue is fully dry, they are again very durable. I also upgrade the texturing and I added optional "metal" bar rings that help cover the part seams.

That was my weekend playtime report :-) Now it's back to business with the wako ship and hopefully some time spent on the savages settlements!

Happy building,

Chris
