The Sloop is going to be BIG!
Added 2018-11-07 04:25:51 +0000 UTCI have started working on the full size model of the sloop and ... man, I love it already :-) After I completed the first build at this scale I noticed that I was smiling. I was so excited to see it on my cutting mat.
The LEGO minis will give a good indication of the deck space we have to work with here. Even without the stern cabin it looks great, no?
For comparison, this is what the half size models looks like. Also great for small minis, but I love the 28-30mm builds :-)
I then tried to see where the cannons would go and found that I need to raise the sides by about 5mm as right now the cannons are too high and will not fit through the gun ports!
Also the bases of minis, raising them up by about the same amount, will make the raised sides look better with the minis next to them. Now the railing almost looks too small.
When looking at research pics I find that the best design will be four cannons on the main deck. On the raised stern deck I would put swivel guns. The gun port towards the bow doesn't make sense, as the jib sail mast and windlass will take up the space there.
Now I am going to build the cabin module and then I will start to optimize the unfold so that everything comes together as easy as possible.
