Between working on the Chinese Court Yard buildings I was able to advance the Brig a little. So here's a look at my first test build of the brig. It's a rough build at half scale (15mm) with the main purpose to check the hull shape ... and I am quite happy with it!
I am thinking about adding an optional forecastle or sleightly raised deck but have to check how that will work with the jib mast. Also I want the option of a simple gallery/balcony around the captains cabins window in the stern to add more flavour and variations.

For the stern section I was contemplation a couple of variations but in favour of a not too complicated build I went for this solution. I think I have captured the right bending of planes and the upper part of the bulwark walls are slanted inwards a bit.
As with the Sloop I was able to break up the plank parts to follow the lines on the outside, thus hiding the seams. How would you like double up parts that would completely cover up the horizontal seams?

Also satisfied with the bow section shape. Now I have to work on the figure head section in the front of the bow keel. That will leave room for some options too, if I can manage to pull off some sea maidens and neptunial warriors or skeletons (for pirate ships!)

So with the shape more or less done I can start thinking about the hull detailing and options. Maybe more gun ports in the aft section towards the captains cabin and the quarterdeck and also have to check possible ornaments. I remember as a child we visited a ship in the UK - I think it was the Golden Hind - and it had lots of coloured triangles.
I am looking forward to the first full scale build to check the deck space, but I am getting ahead of myself :-) Back to the basics for now!
Until the next time, happy building!
Chris
