Honing in on the square sails
Added 2019-03-18 19:05:57 +0000 UTCI am trying to get the size of the new sail type right and think this could be it. For the brig I will be focusing on the bottom two sails.
Also I have to see if I will just reuse the (stern) main mast gaff sail for the foremast sail. I see so many different sailing rigs for the brigs. Some have just the square sails on both mast and the stern gaff sail. Others skip the lower square sail on the fore mast and replace it with a gaff sail. And then some have two smaller gaff type sails on the foremast replacing the larger gaff sail.
With the sails I am going for now I will be able to allow the first two options. For the last option I will have to create a new sail piece, which I will have to leave for a later time. Maybe a stretch goal for the Kickstarter.
OK, next I will work on how to curve the sails and then texturing them. I am wondering if I can make the flat version look good enough by just curving it like the previous sails. Before (on the Japanese ships) I made the curving by modelling a 3D sail and then building it with layered stripes. The simple curving would be a huge time saver.
