Starting prototypes of the Tropical Village Builder

Today I want to talk about how I am approaching the connectivity of the extensions in this set.

One thing that is important for me is to make sure I have the option of an fold-flat removable build. So for this type of buildings I am trying a different approach than with the Japanese buildings.

I am separating the raised floor layer and give it the function of keeping the below and above in place. That means for extended versions you will have to have it's own floor layer.

Here you see an example. The under-construction and the house would be built the usual way (either fixed or fold-flat) and you then place the raised floor part onto the under-construction and the house in that. The flaps will help keep it in the right place.

Now when you want this house with a 3x2 veranda, you will need a separate raised floor part (will show you a test build in the next days). The negative about this approach is that you need these floor parts for any combination you would like to build. But the positive is that this part is very easy, fast and "cheap" to build. And also it makes it very easy to design. If I would try to connect the extension in another way, the design gets really complicated and cumbersome to build.

So you would build your library of connecting layout floor parts and use them as needed!

Finally here is the prototype with some details scribbled on :-)

That's it for today. Feel free to comment how you like this approach.

Until next time, have fun and keep building!

Chris
