I have started working on the next Tropical Village Builder set: the 4X4 core house and the 4x2 extension.
The geometry was easy to adjust and I hope the texturing will go fast too.
One thing I have talked about before was that I would like to make the roof also in "3D" mode, meaning that one can double up details and make it look more "full" and less flat.

So I have made this page with strips of palm frond roof lines. There is an option to have the black zaggy shape to simulate the edges but here I turned that off and cut the zaggy line out with my craft scissors. This went really fast and looks great.

The idea is to print it on stronger cardboard and the glue the layers on like a real roof would have been made. This gives the assembly a really great look. I don't think you can see it well in a photo. Also it makes the piece very strong, sturdy and it feels quite heavy in the hand.

There are little gaps on the end of the lines die to the way they are glued. I think it looks fantastic and I want to make wooden shingle roofs like this too soon.

here is a comparison of the flat and "3D" detailed roof. I still need to make a top cover part. Here I just glue two single line parts on but the shadow on the top edges doesn't really belong there :-)
I am also working on the big ships again in the background so expect some news about this sometime this month.
Until next time, have fun & keep building!
