For a while I have been working on the hearse wagon geometry and was not happy with the results. I tried a very simple basic-almost-box shape but I wasn't happy with the look as it never really looked like the reference.
Then I split the single box approach into segments. Now I have the main wagon, the front seat and base holding it all together. Then of course the whole wheels section. That way I will be able to switch to different designs very easy.
Shown above is a very simple wheels mock up just to test the right height of the assembly with a GW horse figure and a paper horse.
Next is a little bit more advanced looking wheels section. Still simple to build but not just a texture box.

Here's the wheels section take off. Once it is textured and using thicker paper it should look really good.

And finally I am also testing a full advanced 3D detailed wheel section. Here you can see the carriage leaf springs modeled in detail.

They are not difficult to make. It's just layers of cardboard glued and dried in the right shape. With the bottom triangle tube one should be able to make rolling wheels!
And here I am trying to put it all into the right position with the help of stuff that was in reach on the table :-)

I wasn't sure if such an assembly will be strong enough but so far it looks very sturdy.
Next I will detail the simple wheel sections and work more on the detailed wheels too. Once I have this "ground work" done I look forward to building more carriages sometime next year.
That's it for today. Until next time, have fun and keep building!
