INNER CIRCLE Video Diary - Is P*dophilia Funny?

Comments

The insight into your creative process and how you used to view yourself as a "talentless hack" is really nice to hear (in the sense that many other artists think the same often). Honestly hearing all the more vulnerable things you say in the Inner Circle about your artistic process, how it's changed for you, and how it always changes is really motivating. I really hope as many of us can make it to your hour long show.

Well said!

The way people talk about your content is always in one aspect, asking things like “is ped0philia/animal abuse/whatevery bad thing funny?” When thats not even the point. Of course they arent, but any subject or situation can be used to make a joke or a great compelling story if used well. I wouldn’t even say your work is satirical because it goes into emotions everyone thinks about at some point but refuse to acknowledge even if hypothetical. Dont let twitter idiots trick you into thinking theyre actually smart 😂😂

It's definitely interesting witnessing these early days of Dan Hentschel. Inb4 10 million subs. The TikTok banning is a perfect example of why I've never bothered with that platform. All the other sites have been ban happy enough in their history... we don't need to invest our time and creative effort into the one site that has a 70% likelihood of banning you. Twitter sucks too though, I have never found an ounce of momentum on the platform and I'm clearly shadowbanned. YT seems to be the only site allowing edginess these days, which is smart of them if they wanna survive.

It made my heart sink to hear you almost deleted CWBB

IMO Dan doesn’t even *have* to be funny. I think he’s creative and a great actor. The humor added into each of his videos is just the cherry on top. 🍒

Admittedly, very secretly *to me* my fave work of yours (emphasizing the *me* cuz I’m of course just a rando on the internet) is always the tame stuff that’s almost even G-rated just because for me personally that shit is harder to write/actualize than raunchy edgy animal abuse suicide pedo stuff 😅 SO I’d love to comment here like “you’re better than resorting to that🙄😡!!” ***HOWEVER*** LMAOOO when the polar opposites of your “normal” stuff is juxtaposed to the horrendous vile shit - both types of content somehow become EVEN FUNNIER to me just for the fact that they’re folded in together sooo casually lmfaoooo. I will never be able to bring myself to click on the peta video but I still don’t believe you have to compromise anything for anybody cuz it’s def your own style which ppl work for lifetimes trying even just to find (and anybody who knows how to read understands nobody is in danger 😅) The creative act Rick Rubin he says artists never have to worry about their work being cohesive cuz its from the artist that’s what makes it cohesive <3333 Lotsa luvvv keep trucking!!

I agree with the idea that certain people who wholly present themselves as 100% good people who have never done anything wrong are- at the very least- kinda delusional. I enjoy your work because it feels like an accurate portrayal of a real person who experiences actual human emotions. And on the whole- I feel like bc of the nature of the internet and preserving ideas in perpetuity- some are quick to believe that what a person says can etch into stone who they are for the end of time. Saying dumb shit sometimes and making mistakes helps us grow as people and have real learning experiences. and I don’t think there’s a single person in the world who hasn’t thought or done something that they regret- and we all have the capacity to grow. I appreciate you being real and honest and making art that you personally enjoy and find funny even if there might be times that you joke about topics I might personally not find as funny- you can’t cater to every single person in the world nor should you try to. As you said, I think there is a good balance to be found of gauging the temperature of how people react to certain things vs what you want to explore in your videos/tweets/etc—and sometimes the “majority” might react poorly to certain topics and that’s all a part of taking risks and can help inform your process- so all that rambling to say- keep up the good work and these diaries are great! 😤👍

I do agree with the sentiment that most people on twitter are morons. The difference is that people who aren't real fans of you expect everything and give nothing in return. Real fans like Patreon and Discord members have a much more human connection with you, and we don't expect you to be our dancing monkey 24/7 for laughs, and we are interested in and understand the creative process behind it all too.

I've always thought the most interesting and funny thing about what you do is how you satirize "therapy speak", where people have learned this kind of way of thinking/talking that absolves them. All of us know (or at least have seen on the Internet) people who are exactly like this, total narcissists/generally insane people, and you take on the personas of the worst possible people and come up with ANYTHING you can think of to rationalize the awful behavior. It's hilarious to watch you (implicitly) call out people who act exactly like that in the real world, especially when you know someone like that in real life. It's like holding up a mirror to how the worst people in the world justify their actions, and it makes me laugh every single time, so I love your content and I also love reading the replies of people who fell for the bait.

Ronan Tegerdine

We said this in the discord, but I still think it's very much true. Why we enjoy your content so much is that these stories being spoken are forms of extreme emotions that everyone feels, but put in extreme situations that (hopefully) no one will get into. I think you're right that the character is a big part, because we know there is many other different routes it can go but you chose the worst one. Lmaooo
