A hella fun episode! Next week is going to be fun. [Direct link here.]
I feel like there can be SO many theories with this show and of course, can't forget about that quote: "What we know is a drop. What we don't know is an ocean."
Looking forward to reading your comments!

Oh yes, thank you! Yeah, that did become very clear later!

It was older Claudia that you seemed unsure of in ep. 8, but I think you realized who she was on the re-watch and you know who she is for sure in ep. 9.
I am sure there is a whole community of people who have done a forensic deep dive on the meaning behind every name, the historical context of each symbol, the pop culture and literary references that are hinted at, etc. etc. etc., but even on a third viewing I feel like I have a good grasp on everything, but only to a point. Which is what makes this show pretty special IMO.

I've re-watched these episodes now, but I'm not sure that I identified someone new?
I think in Mikkel's case... maybe he wasn't able to? I'm curious if the passage in the caves that we've seen Jonas and Ulrich go through ended up being hidden from Mikkel in some way, because according to what we know, he HAS to stay there and grow up to be Michael and there seems to be no way around that. 😢
HAHA I definitely mean the type of people who have watched it a few times and really dissected it. I assume there are some of you out there!
Yes, the leaves are falling here and this is definitely a fall show based on the time of year it's taking place in.
I love the song so much, I know just about all the lyrics at this point.

We can't just put blame on the Nielsen's for the affairs, there were other people from other families involved too. At this point, I kind of just want to say that Winden itself seems so boring that affairs are people's way of having some excitement in their life. 😅 (It's still super wrong, of course.)
Ulrich is definitely not a good person at all. We have a lot of not-good-people in this show, it's fascinating!

Yep, def familiar with that paradox! And yes, Ulrich is a menace.
The machine interests me a lot too. I'm so curious how it works exactly.

Adding onto what As Nathan mentioned, 1986 is important but I'm not sure it's the center. The stranger mentioned a nuclear plant released a large amount of energy a few months ago. That's Chernobyl. And it opened the wormhole that allows you to go forward or backward in time. The triquetra has a center with three arcs. What if the arcs are the times we have visited and what if we still haven't discovered the center? Or is the cave the center? Many questions.

What's interesting is this show, in some ways, isn't depicting typical time travel. Our characters don't travel so much through time but to a time. They change years but not the day. If they leave on November 11, 2019 at 11:30am they arrive November 11, 1986 at 11:30am. So if you were trying to stop a crucial event from happening at a specific time in 1986 and failed, you would have to travel to 1953 and wait 33 years to try again. St least that's the rules I'm getting from the show.

I think you will identify someone on your re-watch, but I am curious if you do.
You asked why didn’t Mikkel try to get home. I think (and I’m just guessing) that maybe he never knew he could. But we know from his map that he spent significant time exploring the caves.
I laughed when you said “those people who know this show inside and out” not to give spoilers. Like you I re-watched a lot of episodes on my first watch, so this is sort of my third watch (and it’s been nearly four years, so I forget a lot of details), but I think it’s fair to say no one knows this show inside and out. Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese (the creators) excepted. That might be my biggest takeaway on this re-watch is marvelling at what they created. The web they’re weaving is really impressive and the way as creators they’re riding a tightrope of giving you enough that you’re not totally lost, but not spoon-feeding you either. Everyone is nailing their performances, but the look and mood is so central to what makes the show great and I appreciate how good bo Odar and Friese are in all aspects of this show. I hope you are starting to get autumn weather. Somehow this show just feels like it should be seen in the fall.
BTW I enjoy how much you enjoy the theme song every episode. It’s so great.

I find it interesting that they are hinting at an affair with Agnes. If true that would mean that not only did Tronte and Ulrich have affairs, but Ulrich's grandmother as well. Is there a cheating gene in that family? The old nature vs nurture debate.
Yeah Ulrich is officially a POS. Any sympathy I had for him as a father desperately searching for his son is gone. You could tell he hesitated before hitting Helge with the rock. He made a conscious decision to hit him and try to kill him.
Can't wait for you to see how the season ends!

There's a center... so we've now seen three time points. 1953, 1986, 2019. Would that make 1986 the "center"?
Jonas went right, Ulrich went left. Jonas ended up in 1986. Ulrich's in 1953! So right is way back, left is way, way back.
The music in this episode is very Don't Worry Darling. Love that!
Are you familiar with the concept of The Bootsrap Paradox? Basically it's the idea of something only being possible in the future because someone from the future influenced or changed the past. So would Tannhaus have started his research or achieved knowledge in time travel had he not met Ulrich in 1953? Who really discovered the secrets of the cave?
Okay, Ulrich can officially rot in hell. He's on my forever shit list. I get he's in desparation mode but beating a child with no hesitation or remorse and then hiding the body... no, unforgivable.
Maybe the affair goes both ways. As Demetri Martin said, you can't have a love triangle without everyone having something going on, otherwise the base doesn't connect and it's just a love angle. It's funnier how he says it lol.
The Stranger and Tannhaus having a total of three identical machines is intriguing. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how that plays out and how it ties into the children and that eye-burner contraption.
