X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Hello everyone! Not gonna lie, kind of jarring going from Deadpool to this. 😅 But so happy to see some of my favourite X-Men actors again and there was no shortage of wholesome CHERIK moments in this. ❤️

I'm looking forward to your comments! Please enjoy.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

For me I do enjoy some of this movie, I love seeing new mutants and various new powers on the big screen, and ofcorse nothing beats the Quicksilver scene's . Then I think of what if X-men would have been in the MCU back then. Apocalypse should have been treated like a Thanos level threat we should had multiple movies leading up to his rise and gaining of his 4 horseman and maybe a 2 part final movie. Apocalypse is a top X-men villain that deserved more. Like he wouldnt have picked out a teenage Storm who barely knew her own powers as a horseman ect. Anyway wish they had time to redo a long movie series to showcase the X-men in live action, but I guess thats why X-men 97 needs to continue its seasons !

It's so good!

Love the quick silver slow mo. Favorite moment in the film.

Legion is definitely a "maybe one day" thing for a reaction!

Her American accent isn't 100% convincing.

The show was not spoon feeding you anything, and it invited you to interpret just what the hell was going on each episode--even if it also did usually (though not always) give you a road map. Also, not sure it was set in the 60s--it evoked the 60s aesthetically much of the time, but I was pretty unsure about what year it was sometimes! Maybe that was intentional?

it was such a great alt-60s storyline! I remember loving it but I had to watch weekly breakdowns with it lol

Not sure if it's something anyone has brought this up, but the TV show Legion that aired on FX is an alternate version of the X-Men universe, and it is one of the craziest, weirdest, most fascinating superhero things anyone has ever done. It was airing from 2017-2019 (roughly contemporary with the latter X-Men films such as Logan and Deadpool 2). Legion was one of my favorite pieces of X-Men media--now only topped by X-Men 97. Just thought I'd mention it as it seems to have been largely forgotten.

This movie is weird to me cuz like Magneto’s story is tragic and just great and you get some of the most comic accurate costumes in this as well…particularly, Psylocke. We also get another great quicksilver slowmo sequence. However, they wasted Oscar Isaac and there are so many better interpretations of this classic X-Men supervillain. Lastly, I can’t stand Sophie Turner’s American accent either 😂

Sweet!

Aww that's cute!

If I stick to the 1 per week, which I'm planning on, then Dark Phoenix will be the week of December 16.

Oh, speaking of Moira, I don't know if this has been mentioned before. Apologies if it has! So you remember the end credit scene of X-Men: The Last Stand? Charles wakes up in the comatose man's body? He says "Hello, Moira." They were friends all that time, from their meeting in First Class to Last Stand. It's really sweet to think they've known each other that long :)

Oof...this one's painful...

Apocalypse is one of my favorite villains in the XCU, obviously Magneto being my favorite. This film also has one of my favorite and arguably one of the best Stan Lee cameos, holding his wife and the reflection of the nukes in his glasses. It's a terrifying and beautiful shot. Magneto already had such a tragic story. Adding his pain from this film to everything he's already lost...it's unbearable for most people. As they say, the Devil comes to you with everything you ever wanted. That's what he did. He came to Magneto and granted him the power to exact true revenge. The best part about it is that I can't really say Apocalypse is 100% wrong or 100% right. I love a good "mixed bag" villain. I love the hints at the future we got with Jean and we actually get to see just how powerful she's becoming. Sophie Turner was such a great casting choice. I wish we had gotten some more with these young versions of Jean and Scott but I love the two films we did get! Can't wait for you to see Dark Phoenix whenever that will be but most definitely looking forward to Logan!
