Thanks for sharing your thoughts! And right right re: SHIELD haha.

Alveus, thank you! Agreed on the suspense here. I'm glad that we do focus on how things affect Phil, he's still the primary character to me throughout this whole show so I'm glad we touch in with him in that way.

What this show does better than any other show I've seen is subvert expectations. This whole episode you kept saying things that you were SURE was going to happen and I just kept chuckling and saying, "Nope, Nope...and again...nope." 😁

I never felt bad for Mallick. Their whole family is loony. And you have seen the necklace before briefly, and you’ll see it again! However, I won’t spoil it. It’s part of the fun!

The show does a good job of making you feel bad for some bad guys, Malick going through what he did seeing his death, seeing his daughter die, seeing how bad It truly is probably wondering why he brought It back and wishing he didnt now.

Going to watch this tomorrow...mm-hmm!

Love a good backstory. We get a cameo from Whitehall which ties in some history from season 2. I love how we get a personal motivation for Malick belief in Alveus or who most of the fandom call SquidWard. (I mean come on that is just perfect. ) He believed the people sacrificed would return and they did sort of in a very twisted way. Now if you look back and think about Malick relationship with Ward earlier in the season you can see a parallel with him replacing his brother with Ward similar to what Ward did to Fitz and his brother. You bring up something many people always bring up about Shield VS the MCU. Technically Shield is the first response to threats. They are the SHIELD. Preventative measure. Coulson tasked Daisy to create her secret warriors initiative as sort of a second response team instead of the avengers after all that stuff with sokovia in season 2. Avengers are supposed to be when a threat is too big for shield. When the threat is already to big to keep from the public. Because otherwise what would shield do? Trust us this is still taking place in the MCU world.

Few reveals this episode: we get to see Gideon's vision, and that it's *his* death that he saw; we finally have a name for "it" - Alveus; and we get a little info on what "it" actually is. The way they tell this really keeps the suspense of what's going to happen to Malick going throughout the episode, and it offers a lovely way of expanding on and subverting some of our expectations about him, yet still fitting with what we already know - we've seen that he's fine orchestrating events, but not that comfortable with doing things himself, and now that's confirmed to be a long-standing character trait. Alveus killing Stephanie rather than Gideon is also a nice little twist. It's also good to see follow up on how this is affecting Phil - it's the kind of thing that could easily be glossed over (and I think that *would* be glossed over if AoS was being made today, with the storytelling style that is de rigueur now).
