Things keep happening that I don't like!!! (But I'm still so invested.) [Direct link here.]

Next week, we have Captain America: Civil War taking place in between episodes 19 and 20 so I will be re-watching that on my own time.

Cheers!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Singularity [3x18] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Sean was right about James. When he got his powers, he was still himself but he couldn’t control them. Once Hive swayed him, all of that changed.

Aldo Gonzales

brett was just smiling towards Iain while he looks a little shy while reading that out loud 😂😂

Kailey

It is! I'm so excited to see more of it, to be honest. And I'm still gonna feel icky about it. 😅

kaiielle

A shocking moment to me, for sure! I'm excited for more Doctor because I really dig John Hannah.

kaiielle

The undercover situation was really fun to watch, that's for sure!

kaiielle

It's quite often that people on the "outside" will see something in people before they realize it themselves. I'm just glad that Fitz and Simmons are finally FINALLY going for it!

kaiielle

Make sure to tune in to a movie reaction that I am sharing next week for the MOST uncomfortable I've ever been, truly. 😅

kaiielle

Yeah Hydra being gone is a really great plus! I think I was just way too focused on the Daisy situation. 😭 I'm digging that Brett gets to act as such a different character now, that's so awesome for him. Can't wait to continue to see what Hive does. And yes you're right about Daisy. It might take me a bit to get an understanding of this new avenue for her. Thank you for the YT link!

kaiielle

I'm def a shipper and not ashamed about it LOL, even though I equally like and root for true platonic het relationships too. But yeah Fitz and Simmons is about as organic and wonderful as it can get and I love that for them (and for us watching).

kaiielle

Yes, I love one-shots like that, so good! And shit, I didn't even notice those Star Wars references (shame on me lolol). Thanks for mentioning it!

kaiielle

Yeah, that goodbye was nice and Brett Dalton did a great job acting it too.

kaiielle

Yes, still lots of things to like! And don't get me wrong I still love the show, things are just getting CRAZZZZYYYYYY now!

kaiielle

Hive's "sway" is such an interesting and different type of "mind control" than we've ever seen portrayed. At least for me. I've never seen this type of influence. It's more like a cult leader, but it's biological. Oh, and I never felt all oogie about Daisy and Hive 'cause I never viewed it as romantic at all. She's got that sense of belonging, of "home" that she always wanted and she knows he's responsible for that so if there was any sort of "love" there, it the love of cult followers have to the cult leader. So, try to think of it that way and you shouldn't feel as oogie about it when they're together.😀 Oh, and I like how it's described as a "sway" rather than something like puppeting.

Thadman

Yeah, I always have said that I'm not a shipper either. I don't get upset when characters don't get together nor get together with someone whom I didn't ship them with. I was always like, "If the character says they like this person, who'm I to say different?" But, I did say, "Oh, I don't have to ship FitzSimmons. It's OBVIOUS they belong together." "Why're we still talking about this?" - Mal Reynolds.

Thadman

One of my favorite thing is how they met the Dr... btw we need you guys to do surgery and put you're eye implant in.... a minute later Simmons is flat out sticking a needle right in his eye. I love the Dr he's one my favorite side actors in a bunch of movies and shows.

Chris Elkins

That the rest of the team noticed their blossoming relationship, even before they did, totally fits their characters. And for Mack, who was a latecomer to the group and who early on had his doubts about Simmons ("The only think that makes him worse...is you"), to be one one who points it out is very nicely done. Speaking of the team shipping FitzSimmons, I love that is Daisy's first vision in Spacetime she sees Fitz & Jemma holding hands. Whether they did or not had absolutely no baring on the mission at all, she just saw her friends holding hands!

Dyrla

Mack wasn't even surprised to find out they are in a relationship now I think that says a lot how even the other people in their lives think it makes sense they are together.

Kailey

yay I love this episode!!! so glad to see Fitzsimmons finally getting to the next level. They really are just so sweet and being the nerds that they are of course that they would make it scientific about sleeping together for the first time lol. Plus it was great seeing them go undercover together in the process once getting them official. It seems that the title of the episode was named after them!

Kailey

I get why Simmons said it felt pretty new. She didn’t know what Fitz felt for her until he said she was more than a best friend.

Aldo Gonzales

Just realised I posted a duplicate comment...the second one should have been.... The highlight of the episode was that after 10 years, 62 episodes, a fall from an airplane, surviving the bottom of the ocean, a not so fun brain injury, a year of miscommunications, being stranded (and rescued) from a desert planet, kidnapped and tortured at the hands of Ward, and after holding hands and making out in the previous episodes...Fitz & Jemma finally took their relationship to the next level!! Halle-bl**dy-lejuh! Loved Mack's "No it isnt" comment....truly him speaking for the majority of the fandom.

Dyrla

I’ve never seen you so uncomfortable for that long. I felt bad for you. Just remember, Hive is in control and there are 7 seasons. Yay Fitz-Simmons is official!

Ray H

You don't like FitzSimmons finally getting together? Well, at least you can be happy that the SkyeWard ship is finally moving forward... 🤢 OK, enough teasing 🙂. There was still good stuff in this episode to balance out the direness of our ongoing situation. For one, Hydra's infrastructure is now gone, which should eliminate them as an ongoing threat - there's likely still Hydra members around, but without that infrastructure they shouldn't have the resources to do anything significant. I love the reasoning for Coulson's new shield - "I thought it would be cool" is *such* a Coulson reason! Those of us watching live got a little tease that there'd be a special VFX 'gag' in this episode (don't recall who from - maybe a showrunner), but didn't know what it would be. Hive really does feel different from Ward - the general stillness and calm voice Brett is portraying him with makes him seem a whole lot creepier. Bringing 'Will' to the surface was also done well - just enough of a change in voice etc. to feel like it's not quite Hive in that moment. The scene with Daisy and Fitz kinda proves that Daisy isn't fully 'controlled' by Hive - there's no reason for Hive to want her to tell Fitz about her vision (indeed, we don't know Hive even knows about it), so she must still care to a degree and be able to make her own decisions (to an extent at least). It seems that from how FitzSimmons describe it - as an 'addiction' - Hive's control comes from him causing those he infects to feel pleasure from obeying him. You mentioned James getting control of his powers really quickly - I think the implication the show is going for is that that is a result of Hive's infection, rather than being a quick/natural learner. One final little thing - there's a clip of the last few moments from this episodes table read on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPoPECIQNrc - I believe it came from Luke Mitchell's Instagram originally

FitzSimmons! I'm not really a 'shipper'...that is to say, I don't root for characters to get together in fiction at the expense of storytelling--which is not to say that I don't root for characters to get together; but, it needs to be organic, and true, and have real chemistry, and be built within the framework of the story being told. That being said, after three goddamn seasons, if Fitz and Simmons didn't get together already I was going to motherfucking riot. Good shit.

Steve Mercier

Love the opening one shot in this episode as it's just a simple walk and talk scene but the camera work and the amount of extras in the shot makes it so good. Love that Coulson wanted the Director of SHIELD to have a shield, it's such a Coulson thing to want to have. And love that someone on the writing team is a Star Wars fan as two of the call signs used in Operation Decap are references from the movies. Red 6 is Luke's call sign in A New Hope and iirc Echo 1 is used as a call sign for one of the Naboo pilots.

Dyrla

The show has so many lighthearted moments that of course it feels so weird when we get these depressing episodes with the team at a low point. I love the "Goodbye" scene between "Will" and Simmons. It is so interesting you mentioned that Will the actor looked like Brett Dalton earlier. It makes the scene here fit perfectly with "Will" speaking through Hive. It took three seasons but we destroyed Hydra the organization as Gideon controlled and knew its infrastructure and told shield everything. Hive ironically does not care about Hydra so he is technically a different kind of threat. Can't wait for the stuff at the end of the season. Great reaction as always.

Christopher simeon

True, but what about a few things that we CAN like? For starters, General Talbot and US Armed Forces finally brought down HYDRA – this time for good. The Avengers would be relieved and proud. By the way, even though this is right before Civil War I look back and realized that SHIELD had their own civil war a little while ago with Coulson leading the original faction up against Robert Gonzalez and his own faction. Another great thing in this episode that I didn’t expect when I first saw it was Fitz and Simmons having their first time. It might feel so sudden since they just made their relationship official, but they have known each other for a decade and they’ve been through hell and back. I can’t deny that the way Fitz tried to break it down was quite interesting. 😏😏😏😏😏😏 In all seriousness, I feel like Simmons accepting that Will is gone to Hive’s face further proves her devotion to Fitz. She’s made her peace with that and is ready to move forward into the unknown with her soulmate.
