This movie has an emotional gravitas which is rarely found. It hits me harder than my favorite film, which is both longer and focuses equally on three major characters. In 1946’s The Best Years of Our Lives, servicemen returning to their hometown interact with each other and more importantly with those who did not face combat in World War II. I think you would find it interesting… it is long, but paced like the greatest films of the ‘40s. One fascinating aspect of it is that among the many Oscars it received, the Best Supporting Actor received two awards for the same performance in the same film.
