I love them haha

Leave it to Mack and Coulson to become the comedy duo we didn’t know we needed.

Part of me thinks that they specifically had James use the chain to see if it would look good enough on a TV budget for them to do Ghost Rider here.

Adam Nelson

That flaming chain is iconic and as tied to the character of the Ghost Rider as Mjonir is to Thor and the shield is to Cap! It was a fun easter-egg in S03E20 when James used it, and it nicely came full circle here with Robbie grabbing it. 😎

The actress playing AIDA is Mallory Jansen. I fully agree with you, that she is doing a phenomenal job here! The not-quite-real disconnect between how her mouth moves when she talks and her frozen facial expressions. She sometimes also blinks her eyes in such a robotic way that I almost suspect they might have done that using some keyframe timewarping edit in post-production. Mallory Jansen is Australian by the way, so concurrently with doing all that technical body-language acting, she's also putting on an American accent.

When Hellfire (James) was introduced and he used that chain in season 3 episode 20 against the watchdogs people were confused because a fire chain is definitely more associated with Ghost rider. So the writers specifically created the scene of Robbie snatching the chain from him and I loved it. Just a side note about the Darkhold if you recall they are all just copies of the writings on Mount Wondergore from Strange 2 that Wanda destroyed. Wong says this when Wanda's copy was destroyed. So this Darkhold may or may not physically be the same but it comes from the same source so it is basically the same item just copied in different places. In the comics the necronomicon is said to also be a copy of the darkhold. Simmons has come so far from who she was. Now she has to lie which has always been her achilles heel.

So much good stuff in this episode! It's a close call, but I think my favourite part is the Lola vs Hellcharger car chase - I mean, two really cool cars racing? No idea who pitched it, but I don't imagine anyone needed much convincing. I love Coulson's "I get his car now, right? Isn't that how this works?", and Mack's look in response! On that note - forget Team Cap vs Team Iron Man, the real question is are you Team Lola or Team Hellcharger? I'm definitely Team Lola. James vs Ghost Rider is really fun and cool as well - Robbie catching the chain, and thinking "Hmm, I like this idea!" (thus completing his comic book look I believe), then James' look of panic when the exploding ball he throws does absolutely *nothing* to Robbie. Speaking of, it's good to catch up with James so we can get another perspective of what withdrawal from Hive's sway is like - he's also the only one left who was swayed, given Alicia was killed by the Kree, and Fitz killed Giyera. Daisy wasn't *really* threatening Jemma, she was simply providing Jemma with an excuse to help her - and you can see from Jemma's little smile afterwards that she was quite happy with that plan! I do like Jemma's "you can't have it both ways" though - if she's going to help, then she's going to help with all of it. You can also tell with Daisy's interactions with the team that she does feel a bit guilty - she couldn't really look Mack in the eye in 4x02, and you can see she's expecting an admonishment from Coulson. Coulson on the other hand is just happy she's safe. I agree, Mallory Jansen is fantastic as Aida.

I love Boss Jemma too, when she was undercover at HYDRA we found out that she knows how to move up in an organisation and so it should be no surprise that since the end of season 3 she has used that knowledge to advance in Mace's corporate SHIELD world. And Daisy's look of surprise when Jemma told her that she was the boss (Or SADIST as Fitz likes to say) was priceless. Speaking of which I really liked the Daisy/Simmons partnership (or Skimmons) this episode, they haven't really worked that much together since their 'bad girl skennanigans' days of The Hub. Just shows how much each character has grown!

love Gemma in this episode and season (I mean I have always loved her but her confidence is just shining in this season) "I'm the boss" kills me everytime hahaha
