Getting into short films with Blender

Finally diving into short films!

I've been using Blender for years, and making a short film has always been a goal of mine, but for some reason, I never really attempted it. Instead, I stuck to single-shot animations, thinking I wasn’t ready to take on a full sequence.

But a few days ago, I decided to just go for it.

My goal with this project isn’t to create a fully developed short film with a deep story. Instead, I just want to explore cinematography and filmmaking, since that’s something I really enjoy learning about. I chose Star Wars as my setting because, over the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of time creating models, planets, and experimenting with an overall style. So it felt like a natural entry point.

At the same time, I don’t want to spend months on an animation set in the Star Wars universe, especially since Disney owns the IP, which limits how I can use the final result.

One challenge I’ve run into is that I probably should have written a script first. Now I’m at a point where I’m not sure how to end the sequence without it feeling too abrupt. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them!

And don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the WW2 house VFX shot I shared recently. But as I’ve mentioned before, my motivation shifts between different topics. One day, I’m all about WW2 animations, and the next, I want to do something with space. Over time, I’ve learned to follow that motivation instead of forcing myself to finish something when I’m not feeling it. I know the interest will come back eventually!

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend, and thanks so much for your support!
