Over the past few days, I finally found some time to work on my WW2 project again.
As I mentioned in a previous post, a big part of it will involve the torpedo bomber Douglas SBD Dauntless, so I’ve continued modeling it. Progress is going well — the proportions and many details are in place, and I’m now moving into the fine-tuning stage. At some point, I’ll also start working on the interior cockpit. I rendered a quick turntable to give you a look at where things are at.
I’ve also been experimenting with texturing, trying to figure out how I want the final plane to look. My current plan is to use texture painting to add a lot of the details by hand. I’ve already prepared a mix of detailed textures and seamless ones to cover the entire model.
Once this plane is finished, I’m planning to create one or more videos explaining my workflow.
Not sure if it will make it into the project, but I also revisited an old B-17 bomber model I made back in 2019. If I decide to include it, I’ll need to do quite a bit of cleanup and rework — I’ve come a long way since then.
If I ever complete both the Douglas SBD Dauntless and the B-17, I’ll of course make them available to all Tier 2 Patrons.
On a personal note: I’m moving to Berlin at the end of April!
