2025-06-16 07:05:02 +0000 UTCWhilst I've read quite a bit about the accident so have a reasonable understanding of what happened, I'm watching this series for the first time - which makes commenting somewhat tricky, as I don't know if/when some of the stuff I do know gets covered. I do know that there are a few liberties taken to condense the story and for dramatisation. The helicopter falling out of the sky as shown after flying through the radiation is a definite Hollywood invention - AFAIK radiation even at those levels wouldn't affect the mechanical components of a military helicopter from that period (I suppose it's vaguely possible a modern helicopter with a lot of electronics could be affected) - but I guess it's a good way to indicate to the audience how bad it is. As briefly mentioned, the Western world found out about the accident after radiation alarms went off at a nuclear reactor in Sweden *1200 km* from Chernobyl two days after the explosion
