The Girl Who Played With Fire (2009) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

And we continue this story! Thank you to Nate Jasper for the Reactr request. I didn't realize these movies were all done and released at the same time.

I'm not sure when I'll get to the third movie (unless Nate requests it hah) but definitely want to see this through to the end. 😊 I hope you enjoy the reaction! [Direct link here.]

Thanks for watching and giving the excuse to rewatch, and to Nate for the request. Yeah it was kind of sad they had to cut so much of the communication and feeling each other out between Mikael and Salander, so they could at least interact remotely. I love that her last note was there. Nice catch on the espresso machine in Lispeth's new flat, in the book I think both she and Mikael comment on it explicitly. The Paolo Roberto thing was super cute and wholesome in the book, and it's great that they got him to play himself. I don't think this one stands alone as well as Dragon Tattoo, but really look forward to watching Hornet's with you to finish off the set.

"Shoe leather" is essentially a phrase that means old-fashioned hard work. The movie spends most of its running time illustrating characters connecting dots to solve a puzzle, so in this case that's the "shoe leather." This one definitely felt a little bit more like an episode of television to me, one that will presumably pay off more in the final "episode." In fact, that is how the extended cuts are structured, with the three movies presented as a six-part mini-series, with two "episodes" per book. I have still only seen these original cuts of the first two, so I can't say what's changed between them. Watching this and seeing where the story goes, I can't elaborate yet, but to the extent I understood what Nate's complaints about the remake were, I felt like I could see why they made these (in my opinion, minor) changes/choices if they were building toward telling a version of this story.
