Tuto: Where to place the tale

Generally I don't like those artist who make graphic guides about what is right and what is wrong at drawing. I think people shall learn by themselves but! ...and is a big buttttt... Seeing around a famous furry site with new banner and saw a detail there I cannot let it pass. Also had the idea to make this tutorial moons ago.

Faaaar away from being technical and giving the most boring explanations I just have to say if you are interested in drawing with basic sense, consider this!

1 & 2 - Back and side view of a partial body. These shows the right spot where the tail has its base.

3&4 - Same view but with the weird way some people put the tail.

5 - Simple examples.

Works for any anthro/were species no matter the diameter of the tail.

If doubts, comment, I will answer!

Yep, those high tails are like... what? tail bones come from a lumbar's vertebra? weird

Birds are similar, with the same structure of the spine and pelvis. All land vertebrates (including those that have returned to the water) have the same basic structure of the spine with the shoulder and pelvic girdles.

Actually, the anatomy is self-explanatory. What is the tailbone in humans is the beginning of the tail in animals, the logical continuation of the spine: lumbar vertebrae, sacral vertebrae, coccyx/tail. However, I see many drawings where the tail is placed too high up. It should not be forgotten that the pelvis and hips are shaped differently in humans, and therefore the tail has a completely different position in relation to the legs than in animals. The anus is located just below the base of the tail in both humans and animals, except that humans do not usually have a tail. You explained it very well. Just consider the skeleton, and everything becomes clear.

But what about birds? :P
