Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part One: Currahee

Here we gooooo. The very first episode of Band of Brothers! Through the deep character development in this first episode, I can already tell that this is going to be a wild and emotional ride. But one I'm definitely ready for (mostly... kind of... I think?). I also had no clue that both Hanks and Spielberg directed this one! No wonder why so many of you recommended it.

Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part One: Currahee

Comments

First let me say thank you for allowing me to be a member of your Patreon community. I joined yesterday and then binged watched Band of Brothers with you all the way through. One of my favorite series. I really enjoy how you don't just delve into the surface events but also try to understand the emotional and mental perspectives that are driving the characters. Since this is the way that I see the world, what you do really resonates with me. Now, I am going to make a recommendation for you, both because I would love to see you react to some of these videos, but also because it will give you some more of the story of the 101st Airborne. If you are like me, I am sure you are thinking 'Great just what I need, another project to do in my copious spare time!' LOL Nic is one of the greatest story tellers I have ever seen and if you don't have time to do reactions to his videos I think you will get a lot out of just watching them. He was a medic in the Army and does mostly military history that not enough people know about. I personally think that your reaction to his videos would make a great supplement to the movies that you watch kind of in the same way that We Stand Alone Together did for Band of Brothers. The video I am gonna recommend here is about Jake "Mcnasty" McNiece. He served in the 101st Airborne and so fought alongside the men of Easy Co. He and his platoon were the inspiration for the movie "The Dirty Dozen" and his squad and him were the REAL saviors of Easy and the 101st at Bastogne. The link to the video is https://youtu.be/ucJDzgc8_cI?si=XPqHno2RVjMwb_DO or you can search for "Americas Airborne Anti-hero" on The Fat Electrician channel on Youtube. WARNING: If you decide to go watch some of the videos on there. Do not watch the video he did recently on John Basilone. He is a main character in The Pacific and it would involve some major spoilers. Ok, so I need to stop procrastinating and get to work. I hope you enjoy my recommendation. I will be joining the discord soon to get the chance to chat with everyone here. Until then I look forward to seeing more from you. Keep up the great work!

Asking Gordon why he was there wasn't about getting a good answer. He was going to make him run that hill no matter what. If he wants to be there badly enough, he'll either make the time hack, or pass out trying. Regarding Winters' promotion, the rank insignia for 2nd Lieutenant and 1st Lieutenant are both a single bar, but 2LT is gold and 1LT is silver. Harris was not sent home, he was transferred out of the 506th PIR and into another unit. The rest of the men stayed in the 506th and with Easy Co. Definitely not ginger, lol. Good ol' narcotics. There were no tanks, or any other allied forces in Western Europe until the 101st landed in Normandy. You were watching D-Day. Fury took place later. The letter from Eisenhower was addressed to all allied forces on the eve of D-Day.

You too! Thank you for sharing. Happy Friday :)

Thanks for responding. Hope you’re having a good day. Yeah it does put a little bit more into perspective. Just remembered it after I heard the interviews in the beginning. Have yourself a good day.

Kevin Cavanaugh

Oh wow.. I did not know that :( Definitely a new perspective.

Kali Wali

Point of fact, this episode aired two days before 911. Give it a new perspective.

Great reaction

Yeah as many times as I've watched this show now I just can't see David Schwimmer playing that kind of role. It's not that he was bad at it he was pretty good at bringing the real-life person to the screen it's just I watched him for so many years as Ross I can't look at him without thinking he's still Ross.

Robert Durant

I was as surprised as you to see David Schwimmer in such a serious role like this, knowing him only as Ross previously haha. And gotta say he nailed the role and acted Sobel's character SO well Just off this first episode alone and seeing the comradery and bond between these men in easy company, I'm excited, but also very very anxious about everything that's still to come.... I know this is gonna be an amazing series. Going to go watch episode two for myself now!

Band of Brothers is one of my favorite TV series. This show went to great lengths to portray the experiences as accurately as possible. While it certainly has a few deviations, either for storytelling or dramatic purposes or because the writers missed something, it is a great tool to learn about history, especially with the real interviews at the beginning. It focuses not just on the objective facts that are often, at least to some degree, taught in school, but the lived experiences of the individuals. For more objective perspectives on some of the events in the show, I can highly recommend the YouTube channel "The Operations Room". A few notes regarding things in the reaction: - Cpt. Sobel did actually switch out the insignia when Lt. Winters was promoted from 2nd lieutenant to 1st lieutenant, both of which are represented by a single bar. This bar is gold for 2nd lieutenant and silver for 1st lieutenant, which was a very subtle change. - While the NCOs briefly lost their ranks when they refused to serve under Cpt. Sobel, they were mostly reinstated. - Lt. Winters court-martial never went to trial and was instead dismissed. - Cpt. Sobel did continue to serve in non-combat roles throughout and after WW2. While his legacy is contentious, some soldiers from Easy Company did credit him for preparing them well. The topic of leadership specifically should be taken with a grain of salt, as it heavily relies on subjective accounts. - The 2 years of training that the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment underwent was unusual for WW2. Many infantry units were deployed after only a couple of months.
