Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part Three: Carentan

In this episode, Easy Company is asked to help take back the town of Carentan. I feel like the main lesson in this episode was learning how much a man has to break in order to fit into the War. Seeing what that looks like was difficult to see and feel. Winters proves himself once again by being the voice of calm in the wild storm of Carentan.

Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part Three: Carentan

Comments

It was Hoobler and Luz that encountered the family, not Malarkey. And I agree, they were never planning to shoot them, they were just relieved that they didn't stick a grenade through the window 🙂

The incident with Spiers shooting the prisoners (which Winters said he admitted to him later) was a one off. There was no second incident like that. They're talking about the one you saw (heard, really) on D-Day that Malarkey was nearby for. OP=Observation Post The woman running the laundry had no way to know that any of those men were dead.

I find it fascinating that so many reactors, practically all of them, think that Malarkey is considering shooting the civilians. To be fair, I honestly can't remember my original reaction so long ago. He has no intention of harming them, he's horrified because they almost blew them up with a grenade. He's stunned that, on a random chance, he decided to do it differently this time, and that's the only reason he didn't accidentally murder them.

Blythe did not die, but did have reaction. He went on to have a great and distinguished career in the military. Love your reactions, I have watched a lot of people watch band of brothers. You are up there, maybe tops. Perfect timing in commenting and you show great respect.

Great info to help me understand more about why they weren't able to stick to their plans! Thank you :)

Yes, it's definitely a glimmer of hope and keeps their mind on something other than the fact that at any minute that whizzing bullet could collide with a vital organ. I understand now why that guy ran out for the gun he was looking for! It's just what they do. It's what keeps them going. There were sooooo many scenes from the intro in this episode! I'll keep the intro in from now on for those reasons exactly. It's a great way to reflect and set us up for each episode. I love that they include actual scenes from the show!

Glad I'm supposed to feel this way! lol I was worried that I wasn't getting an accurate read on his character and I was missing something vital here. I'll tell my mods to look out for Spiers spoilers in the comments from now on! Thank you for the warning :)

Oh no! This makes me feel better, but also worse. I wish he would have been commemorated honestly in this show, but I understand information gets lost in translation a lot when dealing with so many men. Awesome that even after all of this.. he volunteered to fight in the Korean War as well. PLUS getting awards for it? Amazing.

Kali Wali

Please keep the intro. I always think it helps with the immersion.

Ian Forbes

please don't ever skip the intro.....it's great for many reasons...not just because it's a great piece of music

No spoilers but at the end when Sgt. Lipton made the announcement that they were going back, that jump ended up being canceled. We were having a difficult time getting through the French Hedgerows in the Normandy countryside. The jump that they were supposed to make would have assisted in breaking out of the beachhead area and into the heart of France; however, we launched a large offensive that actually overran the landing zones that they would have been using. So they did end up staying in England for a while longer. This will get you set up for what comes next in the series.....another awesome reaction.

It really is the little things that can make the biggest differences. As you pointed out, those sentimental things (collecting watches, hanging on to a reserve parachute, etc) may seem trivial, but it's a small glimmer of hope. Hope that keeps them fighting, that gives them something to look forward to. And then there's Spiers, and his complete opposite and ice cold outlook on war and survival. This series has done such an amazing job so far of showing the variety of ways each person copes with the challenges they're faced with Also, I'm 100% good with you continuing to have the entire intro in these full reacts! It's such a great way to setup each episode, and gives you some chance to reflect on the events of the past episodes. Especially as you start to recognize more and more scenes in it

You're reacting to Spiers exactly the way the writers want you to react to him, which is awesome because so many miss the point. Spiers had achieved legend status amongst the men. Naturally this led to rumors that spread like wildfire, getting more and more embellished along the way. They want you to feel like the men did. Not sure and a little frightened of him. Seems to be working. I hope nobody spoils anything along the way, but the legend continues.

Aaron Chandler

There was a mistake with Albert Blithe. He didn't die in 1948. He survived his injuries and volunteered to fight in the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze and Silver Star. While serving in Germany, he died due to complications from emergency surgery in 1967. After the series aired, Blithe's family came forward with the information. They amended the later editions of the book, but not the TV series.
