Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part Four: Replacementss

In this episode, Easy Company gets sent back to France with new green replacements. I'm loving how every episode brings a new lesson and perspective on War. This one goes to show you that no matter how strong Winters is, he can't control every aspect of the War for his men and some situations are impossible to come out of on top.

About the officer that asks Martin to tap him on the shoulder when the green light comes on in the doorway... I don't think it's ever mentioned again, but I presume he's colourblind 🙂

The arm bands were just american flags. It had nothing to do with rank. Sobel did go to Chilton Foliat to run the parachute school there, but was later reassigned back to the 506th as the S4 OIC. You can't turn down a posting. You go where you're told. If you hadn't talked over the dialogue, you'd have heard SGT Randleman tell Hashey that he wouldn't shoot as straight with the bayonet on. Orange was the color of the Dutch resistance. The Germans were incredibly brutal in every country they occupied, including Holland. The Dutch despised them, and were ecstatic when the Americans and Brits showed up.

Watching along here with you is now my second time seeing this show, and I'm appreciating the interviews with the veterans at the start that much more. I really love that they added that element to this show, as it adds so much insight. I keep thinking back on their words throughout the whole episode

They were in England to start the episode. If you remember at the end of Episode 3 Malarkey and one of the other members of Easy Company (I can't remember his name) were riding the motorcycle through the countryside. From my understanding when Easy Company got back to England the rest went back to their base in trucks. Somehow Malarkey and the other soldier "found" the motorcycle and rode it back. That is why in this episode when Sobel finds it he acts like he does. Market Garden was a huge operation that involved many of the Allied Airborne divisions (82nd, 101st, and the British 1st Airborne plus a Polish brigade) in the European Theater to capture these important bridges in Holland. From intelligence they had received the Allies thought they were going to face, as they said old men and boys. Unfortunately the Germans had brought into the area front line troops to rest and relax before being shipped back to the front lines. The other issue is that the British Thirty Corps, which was the land part of the operation had a somewhat narrow road/path they were going to follow and even though they fought valiantly they were slowed in their attack and only ended up taking two of the three bridges. There is a movie that was released in 1976, I was 10 when my dad took me to the movie, called A Bridge To Far that follows Market Garden from the perspective of the Dutch, English, American and Germans. It's three hours long but really goes into the operation in much more detail.
