Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part Six: Bastogne

This episode was heavy for me in a lot of different ways. For those of you newer to my content, I worked as an x-ray technologist for a little over 5 years before making a huge career shift in 2021. A majority of my time as an x-ray tech I worked 3rd shift in shock trauma, the ER and the operating room. During my time in the x-ray program and interning in/out of many different hospitals, I met so many medic veterans and was really close with one in my program. Anytime I see a medic in War films/shows it hits a certain spot in my heart.

Band Of Brothers Full Reaction | Part Six: Bastogne

Comments

It's quite refreshing to watch this show along with a reactor who understands much of what these men were going through, and who isn't so grossed out by the injuries that they miss much of what is going on. It's not a pleasant subject, and it's quite distressing, but you manage to keep track of the story and the unspoken emotion. There are many moments in this series which, even after watching it 20+ times, still hit just as hard. Side note, I'm not sure if anyone made you aware, but in this episode (and a few others) we see Father John Maloney, played by none other than Doug Cockle, aka Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher games 😊 Thank you for sharing your reaction with us, I know this was from a few months back, but I hope the next episode doesn't hit you too hard...

Welcome in! Glad you're enjoying the watch alongs here :) I agree with your feelings about this episode. I absolutely loved this episode and it gave me a whole new perspective on what medics went through. I kind of knew before, but this episode helped me see it so much more clearly and deeply.

Late here. New subscriber. But this episode gave me such a respect for the medics. They faced the same danger as everyone else, but they saved lives rather than shooting back. Having to run into the thick of the gunfire on a regular basis with no cover is just a different kind of courage. Loving your reactions to this show.

Renee and Anna were based on real nurses. They became known as the "Angels Of Bastogne" for the saving of many soldiers of the war.

I love your reactions to this series, can't wait to watch the rest with you. You show great respect, something that is lost on the youth sadly.

Appreciation to all the veterans. And appreciation to all of those in the medical field. All the thanks in the world for everything that you do

The Battle for Bastone is what we call the Battle of the Bulge. This was one of Germany's last ditch efforts to extend the war in Europe. They attacked an area of the American lines that was being held by two relativity new army divisions that were placed there to gain some combat experience. The The Germans attacked with veteran front line troops and their goal was to cut the Allied line and drive to the port of Antwerp. The Germans were as short of supplies as the Americans. They had enough for the initial attack andthen were depending on overrunning the American supply dumps. However, in most cases these dumps were all destroyed by American forces depriving the Germans of their use. The town of Bastone was extremely important to the German plans as the town had several roads leading in and out.....making this crossroad town a must if the German plan was to succeed. In addition to the 101st there were other army units that also had been surrounded as well. Just as a note the "M" that was traced on Lt. Welsh's head was to signify that he had been given morphine......this episode is tough and it was apparent how much it touched you.
