Forrest Gump | Full Reaction

I was wondering this! I did actually google after I watched if Jenny was likely to have AIDs or Hep C and it confirmed that yes, this is what the writers were going for. But I didn't find any answers on Forrest or little Forrest.

I gotta agree with you on the last paragraph! I feel like Jenny just kinda jumped back into life with Forrest and we didn't get to see how or why she decided to go back to him. I feel like it makes sense that she was waiting for him to be done with his run? It did last years, after all. And she kept all the newspaper clippings of it. So that makes the most sense to me. But I wish instead of letting the viewer speculate Jenny's actions, they would have explained them a little more! Other than that small gripe though, this movie was so beautiful and well-done!

Also very trivial but I believe the creators said Jenny died of Hepatitis C, which she would have likely contracted via used needles and which was not identified by science until a few years after her death. It's also very unlikely little Forrest would have contracted it from her.

I think it was a combination of Jenny being ashamed at what she had done to Forrest and having to take time to work up the courage to try to make amends, even as forgiving as he'd be, the knowledge that her time was short and she needed to make their family whole as soon as possible, and that it was simply difficult to try to reach Forrest while he was on his cross-country journey, which she may have not wanted to interrupt. At any rate, I think the film could have benefited by cutting out a little of the sillier elements, like the bumper sticker and the T-shirt sequence, and spending a little more time on Jenny and Forrest reconciling and being happy while she was still alive.

Going into this movie for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. And it ended up being very different than I thought it would be, and I enjoyed it all the more for that. I absolutely love the way we got to sit on that bench with Forrest and listen to his story. We just don't get a lot of movies like this anymore these days. Just a great story, with inspirational messages and undertones, and endearing characters. And also loved the little trip through American history. Thoroughly enjoyed this movie and your reaction to it! Also, what an amazing collection of songs they used in this film! Makes me want to break out a 60's/70's hits playlist haha. Btw, the Dropkick Murphys have a great cover of Fortunate Son, if you'd like a little heavier version of it

Kali, thanks for such a beautiful reaction to this film. It holds a very special place in my heart and am so happy you were moved by it. I understand the turn in Jenny feels abrupt; I’ve always seen it as Jenny still not ready for a true relationship until after having the kid and learning to accept good things into her life. Believing you are worth something, that you deserve to be happy, and to trust people offering up friendship and love … that’s something everyone has to learn and if you grew up with dysfunction and/or trauma, sometimes it’s something one can never accept. The movie is centered on Forrest so what Jenny or Lt. Dan were doing in the latter sections of the film without Forrest there to document it for us is left to what our imagination compiles from context clues and our own inference.

I see now why so many people love and recommend this one! Such a heartwarming film.

Thank you! I hope you find solace too. I finally cut off all connections with my parents early last year and it's helped so much in a lot of ways.

This and Castaway are my two favorite Tom Hanks films. Glad you enjoyed Forrest Gump, and thank you for your reflective commentary at the end. I've struggled with the same and it can get the best of you - hope you find solace.

I'm so glad I have another reason to watch this movie again. Thank you so much for reacting. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Just a feel good movie with some great laughs and the right way to bring out the emotions from within you. Happy Sunday!
