We Stand Alone Together: The Men Of Easy Company | Full Reaction

This documentary was such a beautiful and emotional way to bring the Band of Brothers experience full circle. Hearing real stories and seeing the faces behind their bravery made it so deeply moving. I walk away from this series feeling grateful to have experienced it—it’s something that will stay with me for a long time. And huge thank you to Ian for sending me The Band Of Brothers AND The Pacific Blu-Ray copies. I can't wait to dive into the behind-the-scenes content!

Operation Overlord, the allied invasion of Normandy, is the largest single action in the history of human warfare still to this day.

Oh wow, that's so beautiful!

Joe Toye's son reflection on his dad and Ed Tipper's daughter saying how much she, "loves her daddy" is very touching. She went on to serve as a State Representative to the Colorado state senate.

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I was wondering who that was because I didn't recognize the name. I'm horrible with names in general... But I felt like with this series I was really starting to pick up on the men and recognize them. There were a couple in the interview that I couldn't place and it bothered me. He was definitely one of them :)

Kali Wali

Hey Kali, i don't know if you recognized the name of the guy at the beginning of the documentary, the soldier telling the story about his broken legs was Suerth Jr. In the series he's the soldier in the truck at the end of "Crossroads" that everyone was asking did he have extra socks, cigarettes, and ammo.

Robert Durant

Yes! This documentary really exceeded all of my expectations. I love that they kept the parts in that they had already put into the episodes and intertwined it into the stories they told us. I felt like I was rewatching the entire series again but through their experiences. Such a well put together show and documentary to honor these brave men!

Kali Wali

This is absolutely amazing! I just looked up the story and wow. Thanks for sharing!

Kali Wali

I agree that the documentary was put together in a way that the viewer could visualize what they were saying as they were explaining it. What an amazing way to honor these men. It'll be hard to look at another WWII movie/show without comparing it to what I experienced in BoB. Also, that makes sense about Winters and crossed my mind as well. I remember feeling that way when watching that scene in the show- "Wow, Winters respects this officer enough not to strip him of his sidearm." That's most likely what they were going for here!

Kali Wali

I saw the podcast ad on the first few episodes of BoB! I'll definitely be checking that out. Thanks for the reminder! I'm happy to take a short break from this genre just for a little. But when I come back in I'll definitely be heading into The Pacific.

Kali Wali

Oh wow! That's awesome!! I loved how they had interviews in the beginning of BoB. It set the tone for the entire episode.

Kali Wali

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my journey through this amazing series 💚

Watching this documentary and hearing the stories told by the veterans made me appreciate the Band of Brothers series that much more. Just to see how real it was through their eyes, and realizing how faithfully the show captured all of the events they went through. Sure, the show took some liberties for dramatic effect, but at the end of the day, I believe that it honored the men, and their sacrifices so well. For all the events in the war, but in particular the individual stories of all the men in Easy Company. An amazing send off for an amazing series

There's a privately funded statue in Normandy dedicated to Maj. Winters and leadership. An enterprising local 11-year-old Pennsylvania kid raised close to a 100,000 dollars selling wristbands with Winter's motto “hang tough”. He gave a speech at the unveiling praising the 101st Airborne and stating Maj. Winters was his hero.

Kali, as you said, the documentary is such a beautiful way to end the journey. And because the doc generally mirrors the events the show highlighted, it allows us a viewers to have some context when the veterans spoke about things and to visualize what happened via the show’s depictions. As for why they chose to have Winters return the gun in the series when in real life he kept it, someone probably knows better but I always assumed they did so to further show the respect Winters had of the German soldiers. Winters was consulted on the show and I hope he was aware and okay with the change (though I don’t know in this specific case).

100% second the HBO podcast series from a year or two ago in which they went episode by episode with different cast and crew to provide details and behind the scenes info. Really great.

Just a few things....thus Saturday is the Army vs Navy game and the Army football team is wearing uniforms that honor the 101st airborne for what they did at Bastone. This is also ironically the 80th anniversary of that battle. I think you'll like the Ron Livingston diaries that are included. Also HBO did a podcast to celebrate the 20th anniversary of BoB. In the podcast they talk to some of the directors, writers and actors....they have some good stories to tell. The Pacific is a good series, told slightly different from how BoB was shot. I'm glad you are taking a short break as The Pacific is definitely darker....no spoilers though...as someone mentioned above definitely watch the interviews and the backstoryntonthe episode, it gives a good insight about what the episode is about.

Hi Kali! This was a great watch! It’s actually great that you got the Blu-ray version of the Pacific as well, because for some reason, all versions of the Pacific that are streamed have removed the historical introductions/veteran interviews for that series. However, on the blu-ray version (which I also have), it allows you to play each episode with those historical backgrounds and interviews. I think you’ll be VERY appreciative of those intros and should totally watch them along with each episode of the series! Just double check that there’s an option to play each episode with the background intros! I so look forward to joining you on that journey!

Really enjoyed your BoB reactions and this is a lovely way to end the series.
