Firefly | Episode 4: Shindig | Full Reaction

This one was a whole gorram rollercoaster lol. I feel like the crew's dynamic just keeps getting better and better. Mal's still out here walking the fine line between 'hero of Canton' energy and 'just trying to keep my ship and crew flying'. It's awesome how this show has me laughing one second and tearing up the next. Can't wait to see where the 'verse takes us next time.. Shiny!

I definitely agree with you! This could have been a very popular sci-fi show on tv if they would have allowed it to grow and not messed up the scheduling/episode order 😩

I'm really enjoying watching this series again with someone who hasn't seen it. It is a shame they cancelled it so quickly, IMO, if FOX would have let it keep going I think by season two, word of mouth would have made it one of the biggest sci-fi shows on tv. I heard rumors that the creator of the show Josh Whedon was having issues with some FOX executives, and they didn't support the show.

There are so many scenes with unspoken words in this show! It makes it feel so much more dramatic and thought-provoking, for sure. And yesss, Mal and Inara's unspoken words are full of some interesting tension lol. I'm starting to really love Mal. And I think it's for a lot of the reasons why Kaylee loves him so much. Because even after everything you think you know about him, he'll go and surprise you by doing the opposite on a whim 😂

Results were good. Kind of you to care! 🩷

So about River in the pantry: In the background of the show (both literally and figuratively) is the Blue Sun Corporation. If you take a close look at the "Cry Baby" that helped them escape the Alliance ship in the first episode, it was made out of a Blue Sun labelled coffee can. There was also background marketing signage on Persephone. Blue Sun is a mega-conglomerate that makes basically everything (e.g. coffee, canned food, t-shirts, etc). When River was tearing the labels off of the food cans, the hidden context is that they were Blue Sun labels. In my opinion, the camera work that does not show the name on the labels well hurts the narrative of the scene leading to viewer confusion. River was expressing her distain for Blue Sun. She was also muttering about "they come when you call". You probably can surmise who the "they" are in this context and why it evokes such an emotional reaction from River.

LOL and I would do that, too!

I can't say right now, but I hope you remember when we get there because it will be hi-larious.

Aaron Chandler

Well, let's not be rash... I would sit down and binge the remaining eps plus the movie with you in one sitting right now if that was an option.

noooooooo I can't accept this. maybe I should slow down on episodes 🤣

Kali Wali

I really love Mal and Inara's dynamic and especially getting to see more of it in this episode! There definitely seems to be a lot there. So much said with so few words between them haha Mal is such an interesting character in the sense that he's the 'good bad-guy'. Sure he's a 'criminal' by conventional means, but he's got standards, and morals, and boundaries that he's not willing to cross. I always love a flawed and nuanced character who isn't just straight up black and white good or bad

I don't want to alarm you, but you're already more than a quarter of the way through the series. Soooooooooo

Aaron Chandler

Why did you say that name!?!?

Aaron Chandler

Stuck in a waiting room for probably another hour or so... Sure do wish I had my ear buds! 😣
