Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 | Full Reaction

I was absolutely swept away by the vibrant humor and thrilling adventure in this one, but nothing absolutely nothing prepared me for the ache in my heart as Peter's story began to unravel. Seeing him wrestle with the longing for family and then the devastating truth about his father broke me. The moment he realized Ego's truth, I couldn't help but also feel his pain, anger, and loss. I feel like I am Mantis but without the cool ability to alter other people's emotions including even my own hahaha.

It reminded me of how deeply we all crave connection, yet how fragile it can be. This movie left me grieving for Peter but also hopeful because, in the end, he found family in the people who truly love and loved him all along.
RIP Yondu 💙

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 | Full Reaction

Comments

You mentioned Dr Strange is not in the Avengers… in the comics there is the standard team which shifts and changes as needs be. But they also have a reserve roster which is pretty much every hero (and some villains) that ever existed ! Once again Baby Groot dancing is mo-capped by James Gunn. Drax and Mantis could have their own TV show together and I'd watch every episode. I recommend the Guardians Christmas special. It's awesome fun. Mantis in the comics is very dull and straight (much like most of the Guardians before Gunn got hold of them). She has "plant powers", can move from planet to planet through plants, and calls herself "this one". And yup... she's an Avenger too ! Groot explaining why he does not like hats made this movie for me (that entire sequence with the toe...) Rocket is a prosthetic kleptomaniac. This is not a part of the comics. The big bald silent guys with Stan are called The Watchers. In the comics they always show up at momentous events. I always imagined they were a metaphor for Stan himself, so seeing him with them was a special treat. Eternity is the opposing universal force to Death, both of which are conscious entities, and the two most powerful that have existed throughout the life of all the universes. The comics get REALLY cosmic (mostly through the Silver Surfer) and its great we get these dribbled in to the Guardians movies. RIP Mary Poppins y'all.

pinkdino99

I was watching an interview with James Gunn and he said in the original GOTG movie the executives at Disney wanted him to use Britney Spear's hit songs instead of the 70's songs that he picked... He was nope, not going to happen, glad he stuck to his guns (pun intended) :)

McShades

Oh you can DEFINITELY alter people’s emotions. 💕

Richard

I 1000% agree!!

Kali Wali

Dave Jordan is the best music supervisor in the business and the MCU has been very lucky to have him. This movie is truly a rollercoaster of emotions. Great reaction!

Matthew Murdick

I've always struggled with James Gunn's Guardians movies. They're overwhelming with so many different emotional beats, and he seems to revel in the most distressing ones like cruelty & bereavement. Might just be me though.

KJ Gould

That makes so much sense, honestly. He totally looks down on other life forms because he is... well, Ego haha. Thank you for sharing this thought! Makes a lot more sense thinking about it this way.

Kali Wali

Late to the party, but just had a thought while watching. I think Ego thought of putting that tumor in Peter's mom much like putting a beloved pet down. "Oh I loved that dog, it was awful having to let her go, but it was time to move on" etc. If that makes sense lol, he's a god and sees other lifeforms as just animals, a tier below him. Just a stoney thought during my watchthrough tonight

JoshGrobansDryMouth

Some show the movie yeah, but they really shouldnt. I guess they dont know better or are just risking it knowingly. The right way is to blur it.

MrSafi

not everyone. I watch a few Patreons, Rob and Trin, the Octobers, etc on Patreon that don't do it. I'll pop on Disney plus I guess and follow along tho. thx.

Phil Tilly

Kali (and everyone else who does Patreon) has to blur out the movie and mute it because of copyright. You need to own and watch the movie yourself on the side at the same time as her reaction, which is why the timer is on the screen

M1 Maz

why cant i see the movie? im new here, and the movie is blurred out.

Phil Tilly

Ironically I got too busy to watch last night, so I have it to look forward to tonight now and I’m even more stoked! The Martian is great too! So happy you’re diving headfirst into movie and tv reactions. Just wanna throw Children of Men out into your film suggestion consciousness. 2006, Clive Owen and Julianne Moore, one of the most impressively directed films of all time, haunting and beautiful, a real reflection on humanity and each year it feels more and more real.

JoshGrobansDryMouth

You are very empathic. I was going to say you remind me of her a bit. I should of lol.

Lastboyscout73

The prototype fin being a nod to Yondu's comic look is amazing! I love how they did that. And I loved Yondu's whole arc. I bet the theatre was a blubbering mess as well! It was such a beautiful moment! Nebula is definitely growing on me! She's quickly becoming someone you can empathize with. And I'm glad she's done trying to kill Gamora haha. I also loved Mantis so much! She reminds me a lot of... me haha. I feel like I walk into a room and can feel every person's emotions and it can be a lot sometimes. I just wish I had the abilities she does 😂 That's awesome about James Gunn and the cast rallying around him! That says a lot about how much they respect him and each other. Very cool! I'm glad Disney decided to bring him back because these movies are incredible. Thank you for sharing!!

Kali Wali

I've re-watched New Girl an embarrassingly large number of times lol. Glad you enjoyed this one!

Kali Wali

LOL I'm Merry Poppins y'all absolutely sent me 😭😭😂😂😂 There was family in every single way in this movie! I definitely loved it for that, too. They honestly branched on every single character's family arc in some way or another in this and it made me love all of the Guardians crew that much more because of it! And hahahah yesss. I am definitely Mantis! I just wish I had the ability to do "sleep" or "calm" to myself 👀✨ And omg. The Rocket and Yondu scenes got me, too. It's like they finally saw themselves in each other and that bond was just instantly formed. "did we just become best friends??" "YEP" kinda moment haha. And yes! I remember thinking Yondu was Quill's father and now for all of this to unfold was absolutely mind-blowing.... I love Yondu so much now. And I can't wait to go back to the first one and watch him through those different eyes 😭 (Plus of course jam out to that playlist again!) I'm actually gonna join you on that 70s/80s playlist listen!! Such feel good vibes ✨

Kali Wali

Thank you! I did make it home safely and back to work but now i have covid🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ oh well, i am feeling and getting better. Symptoms are almost gone. Just a cough and runny nose with sore throat left. Friday night and Saturday were the worst with coughing. Yes Peter has been through a lot already and is dealing with it very well. He has a family that loves him so much. He brought them altogether and they are so grateful to have each other. He found his/a family. His mischievous ways really bring it all together ❤️

P T

Yondu's character took me by complete surprise in this one! But wow, do I love his entire character now. It's so wild how he goes from being this gruff, morally ambiguous guy to someone I literally mourned for in the very end. You're so right that James Gunn is a genius AND a bit evil lol. It's rare for me to be sobbing but still manage to let out a laugh and he accomplished that so easily. I love the theme of found family in this one. It's one of my favorite things about Guardians! And wow Rocket's arc has been so amazing the entire time, too. You can actually see the pain he carries. I think I realized "Rockets" exist the older and older I got (and because of working retail jobs haha). When someone lashes out on me I always try to think about what's going on for them to be reacting the way they are. And seeing Rocket accept what Yondu had to say was such a beautiful moment.. For both of them, honestly! You're so right about Ego! He's such an interesting villain because he just doesn't understand or "get it" lol. His perspective on life is so warped that he really doesn't understand the value of love and connection... It's really almost sad even though he's a total monster lol. I can't wait for Spiderman Homecoming! It'll be my first ever "Spiderman" movie ✨ See you there!

Kali Wali

Totally agree! The balance between humor and heart was amazing in this one. It's rare for me to cry and laugh at the same time (and so deeply lol). I do really love how the humor makes the heavier moments hit even harder because it's easy to become so connected to the characters through their quirks and banter. Genius writing! What you say about grief is so true. Movies and games have been a helpful outlet for me, too. There is something really healing about letting yourself feel through those fictional moments, even when they bring up memories. It's definitely a safe space to let it all out for a little while and leave feeling refreshed a bit :) I'm excited for Spiderman Homecoming! This will be my very first ever "Spiderman" movie so I'm ready! ✨

Kali Wali

She reminds me sooo much of Jack from Mass Effect and she was a top favorite for me. I can see Nebula growing on me a lot!

Kali Wali

I've always thought it's so strange how different areas have access to different things lol. What a crazy money game those companies must be playing 😂 I TOTALLY get why Nebula is a favorite of yours. I can only see her character going higher and higher in my book as well after this movie! She reminds me a lot of Jack from ME and she has a special place in my heart. I'm excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming! Really been looking forward to more on that character & Black Panther eventually! Glad you enjoyed this one with me!

Kali Wali

I'm glad to see you back! I hope you got home safely and had time to relax a bit ✨ I'm glad you loved this one as much as I did! Yondu totally took me by surprise in this one. I feel so much for Peter! But his character is quickly becoming one of my favorites after a deep dive arc like that.

Kali Wali

RIGHT 😂😭 The most genius writing to always keep you on your toes!

Kali Wali

omg... FOUR end credit scenes!? and I thought I got em all 😂😭 sorry everyone! I'll stick it in the beginning of the next MCU film!

Kali Wali

WHAT! There were so many!! And I missed one... sheesh! I'm sorry about that, I'll be sure to watch it in the beginning of the next one!

Kali Wali

I hope you had a great Saturday night! The Martian is coming out in hopefully an hour or two! I'm moving it through the recording software now

Kali Wali

OoooOO thank you for pointing this out! I usually pay attention to stuff like this but I've been spending that time fixing my tea and making sure the sound bars are moving on OBS 😂 thank you!

Kali Wali

I've absolutely LOVED these Guardians films so far. Prob my favorite ones in the MCU as far as comedy & action wise. Pure action wise, Civil War for sure is still up there.

Kali Wali

Awesome reaction as always. Thank you, Kali. Unrelated... I love that you're a New Girl fan! One of the best shows! ♪ We built this Schmidty, we built this Schmidty on Tootsie Rolls ♪

Surprising to me this movie wasn't considered as good as the 1st. I disagree, I feel they are both equally awesome. Don't feel bad about being emotionally wrecked, there wasn't a dry eye in my theater (including me). I see that some people have written a lot about this movie to you. Hopefully, I won't repeat too much. Random things; the prototype fin is the actual look of Yandu in the comics. The "weird duck" is actually a Marvel character named Howard the Duck. There is a late 80's movie that didn't do well in the box office. I saw it once, it's really weird. Ego the planet is not a celestial in the comics but Marvel ret-conned him to be for the movies. Stan Lee cameo was talking to "The Watchers", they watch everything in the universe but never interfere. More comic lore. As I told you once, I haven't read the comics since I was a kid but when this movies came out I use to watch a couple of different Youtube channels that did breakdowns and easter egg videos. Nebula really becomes a 3 dimensional character in this movie and she is one of my favs in the Guardians franchise. I also love Mantis as an addition as well. Also Yandu gets his hero's journey told and you end up loving him by the end. To me this whole team of people are what make these movies so fun. Unfortunately, when cancel culture exploded, James Gunn (writer, director) got fired by Disney for some tweets from like 2009. The whole cast came together because of their love for him and petitioned to get him rehired. Dave Bautista (Drax) said he wouldn't do it without him. Eventually they did rehire him but it pushed Guardians 3 back in the schedule. Anyway, I will leave it at that. I never intend to write a book but I just adore these movies. Another great reaction, these movies can be a gut punch but that's just because the story is so d*mn good.

Lastboyscout73

Family, family, family. Obviously, the theme of this movie, but I love just how deep that concept goes. That sometimes family is blood, sometimes it's what you find along the way. But either way, it's messy and beautiful at the same time. Thinking about Quill / Ego, Quill / Yondu, Gamora / Nebula, Rocket / many others, there's sooooo many in this movie and I absolutely love it for that! Also, when I watched this last week, I immediately went "that's Kali!" when I saw Mantis hahaha I really love the surprise parallels between Rocket and Yondu, especially the one scene on the ship together that lays that out. Both of them had so much development / additional backstory this movie. It's also really cool, thinking back to your Guardians 1 reaction, how you were questioning if Yondu was really Quill's father before knowing everything from this movie! After watching this one, I think the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise takes the #1 spot for my favorite Marvel series! They're just so much fun! An amazing, diverse, group of characters, soooo funny with their unique brand of humor, deeply emotional and relatable, and of course.... THE MUSIC. They're a rollercoaster that I want to go on again and again! Don't mind me, I'm off to jam out to a 70's / 80's hits playlist. "I'm Merry Poppins y'all!!"

M1 Maz

Yondu is such an amazing character, and it's crazy how quickly you turn from kinda neutral to just loving the hell out him. James Gunn is an amazing director but he's also a sick bastard, toying with our emotions only to break our hearts like this 😭 Guardians is such a special team, and these movies really are so meaningful, there's something about found family, man. When you either lose family or leave them because they're just not good for you, feeling alone and finding people just as damaged as you is such a beautiful part of living. Rockets arc is smaller compared to all the bombast in this film, but really stands out to me. Him being an absolute asshole to everyone for seemingly no reason, just says that this guy in someone who's in deep, deep pain, and keeps everyone at a distance, likely because he's been hurt so violently in his past. Peter quietly accepting his apology at the very end with "of course not" was really touching. People who act disrespectfully, are likely either expecting or are afraid of being cut out and left alone. But throwing such a curve ball of being accepted, in spite of all the pains, is the sign of a true family. It's so interesting to me that we really haven't even seen Thanos, aside from short end credit scenes and a little in the first Guardians, but we are feeling his presence all throughout the MCU. Especially here, with how messed up he's made Nebula and Gamora. Hell, Nebula is kind of another example similar to Rocket, she's been so violently treated by her own father, and she's got this white hot exterior of being a violent asshole. When, she's probably the most damaged out of the Guardians. Gamora taking accountability and recognizing that her actions, although she was concerned with survival, still hurt Nebula was super powerful. I love the wide range of relationships we're seeing in this film, father and son, sister and sister, and lots of parenting of Baby Groot 😅 This really is the MCU family lol. Although Ego is an absolute monster, part of me feels for him, on a pitying level. When he angrily yells at Peter, asking what greater meaning could life possibly have to offer, it's not even that he looks down on love or connection, as he had it with Meredith. I pity him because he just.... doesn't get it. That connection, and love is what helps to give meaning, and even though he's a Celestial, maybe he's Anti Social in that big old brain of his, so his wiring is literally preventing him from seeing why universal murder maybe isn't a good thing 🤣 I'm really excited to see your reaction to Spider-Man Homecoming! It's one that doesnt get enough credit in my opinion. See you then Kali!

Lorenzo Baxter

What I love about the Guardians movies is that they are hysterical without sacrificing the heart. Something a few others lack in the balance. At times it can feel like too much back and forth between emotions, but I prefer that to being just silly all the time. The ending wrecked me too. Still does even after seeing it many times now. There's something about grief in movies though that is good, at least for me. Having gone through grief and loss myself, experiencing it in short doses watching films or tv helps me to continue processing it. I can feel sad for losing fictional characters while also thinking of those I've lost in real life. I can cry and be a mess for that short little bit, then be okay. My father and my family situation was nothing like Yondu and Peter's. But, I can feel that bond coming through and remember the bond I had with my own father. Grief is sad and painful at times. But also very beautiful and healing. Technically Spiderman Homecoming is the next one. Even though Spiderman was produced by Sony instead of Disney at this time, he's still very much in the MCU. I wouldn't recommend skipping it.

Marty McGee

This scene is at 2:11:12, i just checked. GOTG2 has 5 end credits scenes, the most of any Marvel movie to date.

Paul Wright

About Nebula just wait for the next Avengers movies and Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3. She should then be in your Top 5 favorite characters. Super character

Łukasz Jarczewski

Nevermind, just Googled it and it looks like Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) is currently available on Disney+ in the US. Here in The Netherlands it's only available for streaming on AppleTV right now. 😂

Onno Smits

Yay, now I can mention that Nebula is my favourite of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters, because I love the backstory and motivation that they give her in this movie! The next movie is Spider-Man: Homecoming. That's not available on Disney+ at the moment (not in my country anyway), as Sony has the distribution rights and keeps moving it around. So it's not on the MCU Infinity Saga playlist on Disney+. This was a great reaction (as always). I gotta say, the GotG movies are not among my favourites in the MCU, but watching them with you adds a lot to the experience, so thanks!

Onno Smits

First, as always, loved the reaction. Second, you have the best and cutest smile and laugh. Third, the real honest emotions and not afraid to show them. I love how marvel blends humor and drama. It's perfect. Crying one second and laughing the next. This was tough at the end with Peter losing his "daddy"!!!! I also love how they make you get so invested in the characters and you feel such a connection with them. Apology not accepted 😂😂

P T

She did miss one, yes

The Dingo

I think James Gunn gets a perverse kick out of making you laugh your butt off one minute then crying the next and then back to laughing again. I can't wait to see the Superman movie he's making.

McShades

I think you might have missed one end credit (there are bunch in this one), but I could be wrong. The one with the Sovereign and then creating Adam Warlock. Hopefully you saw it.

Ray H

Just FYI, and this is no spoiler. Peter and his crew met Ayesha, EGO, Mantis, and the Sovereign in 2014. Yondu died in 2014. The end-credit scene where you saw Teenager Groot, that was in 2017.

Jonathan

Kali, You forgot an END CREDIT scene with Ayesha...yikes! That's the most important of all end-credit scenes in this movie.

Jonathan

Well I know what I’m doing tonight after work 🥰

JoshGrobansDryMouth

Looking forward to this! One thing you may want to start paying attention to is the opening Marvel logo - changed it starting with Doctor Strange so that it includes images from each prior movie, and it's different every movie from here on out - there is one in particular that will make you tear up but again no spoilers :)

The Dingo

For a comic series that wasn't widely read, James Gunn did a fantastic job with GotG.

Scott S

this made me LOL 😭😂 then all I could hear is Drax's insults hahaha

Kali Wali

I try to imagine Kali with the two Antennas on her forehead. That would be a sight. Enough talk, its time to watch.
