The Matrix Reloaded | Full Reaction

This was like stepping into a mythic dream, layered with philosophy, fate, and rebellion. I expected the action, yes. But what I didn't anticipate was how deep this film would dive into choice and consequence. It took the existential questions of the first movie and expanded them into something so much more. Can we ever truly act freely? Are we all just following a path that is already written?

Looking back on it all now, I think what struck me the most was how much I resonated with Neo's journey. In this movie he is constantly trying to balance his own humanity, his love for Trinity, and the realization that his power might not be enough to change fate. His moments of doubt and determination felt so real, even in such a cold and calculated world. By the time the credits came in, I was questioning fate, free will, and whether Neo had really broken the cycle or just set a new one in motion. This was an awesome sequel because it left me feeling challenged to think bigger. To see beyond the code. And to wonder what it really means to be free.

This was such a rush at the cinema. That freeway scene is so well made and absolutely breathless. Morpheus has so many great moments. This has two of my fave characters... The Merovingian and Persephone (played by the stunning Monica Bellucchi). Something amazing for your next watch is when we are in The Merovingian's palace, all of the paintings, all of the tapestries, all of the statues carry his face. Also... I really want some of that cake ! For another great series that gets into the questions of free will and choice, please give True Detective a go. It's easily a top five season of any TV show (you only need to do season 1 as they are separate entities). It's really really good.

I love the matrix trilogy and the animatrix. The matrix 4 isn't cringe as much as its a meta commentary on the machine behind franchise films. The studio was gonna make a 4th matrix film with or without the Wachowskis. So Lana Wachowski did it and made that statement.

Well I just got done with the first movie now onto the second and if I can stay up for it I’m gonna try to watch the third one tonight as well. It’s fun to be able to binge watch these. Gonna miss when I can’t do that anymore. I still have a ways to go for that cause I have all the MCU stuff and that will def take a solid two weeks for sure LOL.

Russell Rutigliano

Welcome in! I'm glad you've been loving it here so far! 🩷 I hope you enjoy the Infinity Saga as much as I have been.. I'm excited for Endgame next week but also super nervous haha

Kali Wali

I'm going to watch it after I'm done with the movies! I got overwhelmed with timing and trying to figure out when/how to watch it. So I'll be watching it afterwards :) Sorry for the confusion! Hopefully it'll still be just as good after I'm done with the films.

Kali Wali

so i guess the animatrix wasnt going to be a reaction? i had gotten the impression it would be since it was brought up but you mention going to watch it before the 3rd movie and the 3rd movie is on this weeks schedule

Magus

I loved your channel, I just joined your patreon and I really enjoyed your analysis. I will watch the Infinity Saga with you on your patreon.

Kali Wali

I'm just excited because I know Serenity is next!

Brandon Pierce

LOL what! I need to see that for sure! And I'll most definitely be rewatching these in my own time eventually

Kali Wali

That's such a true statement haha- "In understanding more, I also realize how little I actually understand" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ So true. Getting older is weird like that, huh. And I can totally see how rewatching these movies over time would feel that way! That conversation with Neo was super powerful, and the way it makes you think about our relationship with control, choice, and society is seriously mind-bending. Is anything that we do really in control? Are we ever fully the one driving our own life? The idea that we have "control", but only to a point, makes me question how much freedom we truly have. And THAT is why this movie is the ultimate rabbit hole haha. It's intriguing, but also super unsettling.. But like you said, Neo's journey reminds us that we always have choices at our core no matter how much the system around us seems to pull at us. I knew you'd love the highway chase hahahah. Even midway through it I thought of you πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ The twin ghosts were so creepy but were an awesome relentless force in the best and most entertaining ways! I haven't seen any of the Fast and Furious movies yet, which I'm sure I'll get to eventually! But yesss, I always cringe a little when I see a dream car get smashed to smithereens lol. I loooove using the Hollow Knight music! It's one a use randomly because it's so hauntingly beautiful. I haven't played Hollow Knight yet, but I sure do love the music lol.

Kali Wali

If you ever watch these movies again in your own time, I would recommend the Blu Ray's for the additional commentaries. One of the commentaries is by philosophers Dr. Cornel West and Ken Wilber - West actually cameos as a council member of Zion πŸ˜‚

KJ Gould

Very true and you're absolutely right! It's always best to go in with an open mind and judge for myself. I don't mind when things are different, because obviously the Wachowskis set out to do something different and that's worth respecting. I'm really curious to see what they did with it, especially knowing how meta and self-aware it gets. At the end of the day, if a movie makes me think or gives me a unique experience, that's a win!

Kali Wali

I totally agree with you! When I watch a movie or play a game, I try to really grasp what the artist was trying to convey, and I think that's why I can pretty much appreciate anything for what it is. I've been like this with music all my life and it definitely translates into movies now, too! Sure it might not be the same exact vibe as the first one, and there may be silly parts, but overall the story still had me captivated and asking myself questions that were deep and thought-provoking so it's a win in my book! Glad you enjoyed it!

Kali Wali

LOL in a way, I guess he was πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

Kali Wali

Not blasphemy at all to me! Reloaded seriously went all in on the action and world-building. The exiled programs were an awesome way of making the Matrix feel less like a machine-run prison and more like a whole digital ecosystem with it's own mythology and everything! The Architect reveal was so mindblowing.. Just when I thought I was beginning to understand it all, BAM. Just another system of control was in play all along. Absolutely wild! And I appreciate the feedback on the background music! I'll tweak the levels for the next one so it's not as loud. Or even just omit it since it's more of a podcast feel here anyhow. Thank you!

Kali Wali

Yesss. I totally agree! This second Matrix movie doesn't just continue the story, but it actually forces you to rethink everything you thought you understood. The idea that the "real world" could just be even another layer of control is wild. Especially considering how the Architect talks about the previous cycles and previous the pervious "One" 🀯 The red candy definitely looked sooo much like the red pill that Morpheus gave him in the first movie. I honestly didn't even get to think too much deeper into it all yet, but I love your explanation of it and now my brain hurts all over again lol. If Neo is a repeating anomaly, then yeah, maybe the red candy is a subtle way of stabilizing or even altering him. Something that is necessary to keep him on the path they need him to take. Or maybe it is just candy lol. The best part about this movie is that you literally question everything within it. Even those tiny details! Thank you for bringing that one up!!

Kali Wali

I've definitely been loving them too! This one was even more mind bending than the last πŸ˜…πŸ€―

Kali Wali

LOL I love Will Ferrell. Thank you for sharing this spoof πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Kali Wali

Hey Kali, as for the fourth movie, don't go by other people's opinions, sometimes it makes you approach the film with negative expectations. It's best to judge for yourself. I personally liked the fourth part very much, I had a great time watching it. People just had too hmmm tunnel vision expectations and that they would get the same thing again. The Wachowski sisters made their own movie and I was delighted.

Łukasz Jarczewski

cool watchalong, happy the haters comments didn't hinder your appreciation, no art is perfect but it's not its... well, purpose.. c':

I.Have.No.Band

"is he giving her a heart attack?" - this gave me a good laugh haha. Enjoyed the reaction even though I think this one is a big step down from the first film

Farbod

Every few years that I re-watch these movies, and this one in particular, my older and slightly wiser brain understands a little more of what's being put down. But in 'understanding' more, I also realize how little I actually 'understand' LOL. Just about our own lives, and the concept of free will, and choices, and control. The one leader's conversation with Neo about the dependent relationship between humans and the machines of Zion, really keeps flashing back to my mind, and the parallels it has with other aspects of our lives. Social media, our jobs, certain luxuries and pleasures we take for granted. Sure we own the power, the control, to turn off some of those things, but what are the repercussions on our psyche? Makes you realize how little control we really have, and sends me down a scary rabbit hole LOL. But then there's Neo here to remind us that there always is free will and choices rooted in our beliefs The highway chase and ensuing fights, is without a doubt my favorite action sequence in any movie! Even with the tech and effects of the time, it's just done so well. And the twin ghosts are perfect, easy to hate, psychotic, barber's-razor-wielding villains LOL. Also... YES I also cry inside a little every time a really nice car gets destroyed in a movie! For as much as I love the Fast and Furious movies, it always hurts my soul seeing so many cool cars inevitably get wrecked haha Also, random side note, I LOVE the intro / outro music you chose from Hollow Knight! One of my favorite games and scores of all time

M1 Maz

This is my favourite one out of the bunch, which is probably blasphemy to most. πŸ˜‚ It has some really goofy bits (the cave-orgy and orgasm-cake come to mind). But the action is absolutely insane. The world-building with the exiled programs and anomalies is cool. And the reveal by The Architect that this whole human rebellion is an expected cyclical thing, and just another system of control, was a mind bender on first watch. As a small point of feedback; The background music during your pre- and post-discussion is a tad too loud imho.

Onno Smits

The best thing about this movie is it'll have you questioning everything, down to the smallest detail. The first movie Morpheus asks Neo "what is real?", then Morpheus shows Neo the real world... Or is it what Morpheus and the other 'freed minds' accept as real? Could the 'real' be just another level of the matrix? When Neo meets the Oracle again, she offers him candy. It looks very much like the red pill Morpheus gave him. That red pill was a tracing program... Could the red candy be a program that alters Neo? If Neo is an anomaly that keeps repeating itself in each version of the Matrix - an unavoidable bug if you will - could the red candy be a patch of sorts? Or... It could just be virtual candy. I still don't know the answers all these years later. I still have questions lol

KJ Gould

great reaction! I love these movies and can't wait to see more with you!

Mister Lou

Hi Kali hope you're having an awesome day. I still haven't seen any Matrix movies yet but it appears I will have to. That's so nice you want to include us in your space planning; you have a blank canvas to work with so I look forward to your decor. Your previous space had a beautiful combination of lighting, colors, and objects but was balanced just right, not too crowded or anything so as to detract from the real star of the show. Also re: zoomed in - that's a good thing! Keep that. Looking forward to your take on Captain Marvel, the reception was a little divided regarding the casting as well as the portrayal so I'll be interested to see how it lands for you. One last thing, don't forget to check your PO Box soon πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–

There was a funny matrix reloaded spoof back in the day for the 2003 mtv movie awards. The funniest part was Will Ferrell as the Architect. https://youtu.be/1FRWDQ_XEJA?si=ODnz2qDJag1ZqS0s

Just wait until you get to the 3rd one! 🀯🀯🀯

I really enjoyed this one! It was somehow even more mindbending than the last one πŸ€―πŸ˜‚ Happy Friday!

Lets gooo! Cant wait to watch along with you this evening!
